Lack of Gold Nuggets and other set "gold currency"

Post by kingfatzo »

First i must say, i looked for the old thread about drops, but i couldnt find it... the search button insulted me; calling me fat everytime i tried to use it so i gave up... :(
-- Can we keep this on-topic, as i said i know there was a recent thread about drops to rant and rave in ---
ANYWAY :

Gold Nuggets, and other "avendell currency" as it is refered to in its descriptions have been dropping rarley since the change in the drop system. I did enjoy finding these items to sell for a respectable ammount of gold, but in the past week i havent found a single gold nugget in my travels, and this included 3 sunken isle runs....

Basically i was wondering if anyone else noticed this, or could it just be a sudden misfortune  , Could this possibly be looked into? I can see cutting their drop frequency back a bit, but this seemes to be extreme...

Again i may be premature in writing this, for all i know this may be a work in progress, but i just wanted to throw it out here...

Thanks !

Would be cool to see the amounts in the descriptions add up properly too.
When it says a bar is worth XX slips yet you sell the bar and the same amount worth of slips and you don't get the same amount of gold it makes you wonder...

I would go so far as to say All Drops are on the decrease, I haven't been able to get any of the gear I used to be able to go and harvest with ease.

maybe it's a lag thing maybe I am unlucky but drops went down everywhere about a week ago

(dont answer that)

The drop system has been changed again. High level monsters can also drop low level gear. So this means high level monsters can drop a greater range of potions and trap components, but also they are less likely to drop the higher level gear because the overall range that the drops can be chosen from is far greater.

Having said that, their is a chance that it will ignore the above and just drop things at the maximum level for the monster.

If know one is seeing nuggets, which should only be dropping from some of the high level monsters , then there my be a bug in that the maxium level drops are not dropping. I'll check that.

I've been playing and testing a lot over the weekend, and I know that most things do drop. Though it's a random Drop system so it's not always going to drop what you want.

well it is random ill give it that but it may be a bit too random. getting +1 kits and brass rings from cr 23+ creatures seems a bit goofy.

why would these creatures even have that junk? goblins and the like i can see but ice giants? or there bosses? perhaps a TR ( treasure rating) should be implimented like say a CR 23 creature will only have loot from tr 18 to tr 26 or something like that.

that would give it more chance of lesser gear but on the whole the loot would be more on par with the creatures CR. basicly 6 below and 3 above its CR for the treasure scale and maybe the reverse for bosses or more of a chance that a boss has some nice gear as they are a boss.

while your argument has validity shield it is also quite likely that they would see these items as junk and toss them

Not sure if it is dumb luck or not but last night alone I found

Firebrand
2 +5 greataxes
Full set of ragnar burial gear
Lvl30 sorc robes
A ring with bless weapon
Full set of shivlas
And 2 staves of the dead.

Amongst this I saw a few gold nuggets too (ithink) and passed them on.

Not to mention the gear the rest of party took.

+7 con belt
Level 25 cleric armor
Level 25 rapier x2
Level 25 warhammer
Level 25 towershields

And much much more

I've looked into things a bit and as far as I can see. Nuggets are dropable. You just need to be killing higher level monsters. Nuggest are worth quite a bit, so this seems fair.

I think it's somewhere around cr18+ that drops nuggets.

Well, the low level monsters seem to be back to normal. I'm getting potions and disposable magic items from them again. But I do agree that junky valuable like the door handles and stuff shouldn't be dropping from high level stuff at all. That's not to say the level 20+ monsters need to drop a half a dozen nuggets on each kill (like they did in the past when nuggets were worthless), since there's only so many nuggets a player can reasonably carry anyway. Maybe we could also have some new valuables added into the system as well for planar mobs; the most valuable non nugget/sarc drops are the golden cup (2880), followed by the ornamental neckpiece and garter (2400 each). Maybe some stuff up to 5k gold for planar monsters would be ok. Maybe 2 or 3 gems even more valuable than the diamond as well for these mobs like star sapphires/rubies/emeralds, fire diamonds, rogue stones, whatever.

How about a limit on the number of stuff an individual mob can drop? Say only 1 or 2 valuables, 1 healing kit max, 1 set of tools max, no duplicated potions, etc. That might also help keep the economy in some degree of balance (as long as the stuff dropping is worth it).

The thing is junky drops on a high level mob are a letdown, and more importantly will get left behind. If I kill an amazon or planar monster and all that drops is MW Iron gear, or stuff like door handles, brass rings or drinking jacks, then it's annoying, becaue that stuff isn't worth the bother of lugging back to town to sell. How much does this stuff contribute to server lag in the long run when people don't want junk? In most cases the stuff will get wiped when the player leave the area from the cleanup scripts, but if the area is or gets broken, then do these mobs drops with door handle and gold slips end up contributing to lag?
