The neutral rift shard quest thread.

Post by Elagneros »

I've suggested a few times having quests to allow players the right to bind to various neutral rift shards around the realm instead of the current setup. Well, here's some solid ideas instead of jsut suggestions.

First off, only Avendell and FD are bindable by all players by default. All other neutral shards are hostile by default and the right to bind to them must be earned. This gives players an opportunity to bind in other places than their faction territory, Avendell, or FD. Some players may already be able to bind to these neutral shards, but it would be better to see neutral shards scattered around that anyone can use, after completing a certain task. This could make an interesting category of "personal quests" (which are mentioned in the NS 4 documentation, but do not yet exist, as far as I can tell).

The following suggestions include both existing shards I know about, as well as some new shards that could be added in a few scattered areas.

Li'norala: to bind to this shard a player should either slay Kronk, King Gustav, a number of monsters from Haddon Mirk, or retrieve an object from one of the dungeons in the Mirk. Anything Mirk-related should do fine here, except battling the Demon of Destruction (too high a CR to be worth it IMO).

Western Slope: Slay Saur'Rattan, a number of demons in the Ash mountains, or something else related to the Ash Mountains.

That tavern in the duergar tunnels (I forget the name): Kill some formians in the nearby tunnels, or some monsters in the Underdark. No killing duergar though, while that would also fit the location, it also would be disadvantageous to members of RK since they are friendly to the duergar.

Eastern Slope: Kill the dire bears of the Overgrown Forest, or the giants in the forest and Redhorn canyon or something gnoll-related.

Monastery (add a shard here): Kill either the ghost at Hallowtop, the undead in the Hallowtop crypts or some Amazon Scouts.

Archaeologist Camp (add a shard here): the ogres in the area are threatening the expedition. Kill some off.

There is one that I know of, but isn't really finished as far as I know. Its Personal Quest: Chirrem's Snack. I don't think its finishable however, but its there. Just wanted to throw that in there.

There's a bind point in an inn somewhere west of the Black Hills too... not too terribly far from the Orc chief and a port.

Hmm.... well, the guy I was with was RK and I don't recall that I actually used it. So I probably didn't.

You can't bind to it, its not finished. Its like the rift shard in the Gnolls Pits, its there but you can't bind to it (or is it fixed yet?)

That gnoll shard is like the other connections to the planes, except gnoll doesn't go anywhere yet, I checked before.

Yep, and the DoD portal also goes nowhere/does nothing.
