auto reset implant?

Post by ihuntudown »

due the massive lag latest 3 months the joy of playing on the server went pretty downwards for me, and think for lotta other persons as well.
Ain't it possible to get a auto reset implanted? I've seen it on a few other servers and makes lotta lag trouble away. From what i can remember is that the former server i played auto-reset it selfs every 3 hours.

3 hours is too fast, but I agree an autoreset would be nice. Sometimes the server is up for 12 at a time without reset, then 46 ppl get on and the server crashes.

I think 6 hours would be fine. It is not too short a time, and its better than is being done now manually.

I too agree that 3 hrs. is too short an amount if time between resets. 3hrs. flys by in a good adventure, 6hrs. sounds better to me too.

a static implementation might be a folly. say every 3 hours? it might be difficult coz at one point after a reset, server already lags after some 10-20 minutes. the best way is to have a dm around, or a server-side script that tests AI reaction to player chracters (chat dialogues, combat, etc.)

I might agree but there is a near constant availability of dm/dev to do a reset. The staff has grown a lot and I have yet to see someone asking for a reset in IRC and it not granted, maybe not that very second but quickly.

Plus with so many changes many resets would have to be done anyways, not every reset is for lag

dm-availability i'd agree is more cost-effective than having additional server-scripts

Unfortunatly, the lag became most prominent after the server implemented the Heartbeat scripts to help fight Darkness cheese. It seems it doesn't work as well as it should since we still have Darkness cheese and now we have Lag. Heartbeat scripts are one of the most resource intensive scripts in NWN. When we get lot's of players running Ice Giants with all the giants crammed into a little area running Heartbeat Scripts and trying to find the way through the blockades we get massive lag. Is there another solution to fight Darkness other then this script? Can we have self buffing Mendous also buff other giants with UV perhaps. The buffing script is a wonderfull addition to the server but the heartbeat script only seems to be making things worse.

Obviously you don't know just howmany cookies they are paid!

Let's give the giants polymorph ability so they can turn into penguins when the chase is on!

It will also provide a reason as to why the penguins are around but not hostile... They're Giant spies!

Also when polymorphing, half the giants could polymorph into penguins, then the other half could pick them up and throw them at those silly adventurers and impale them with their vorpal beaks!

aside from having dms or a scheduler for resets, i think this important aspect can be tackled by the fact that frosdtale is mostly visited for its ice giants. i think the dms should bumping up frosdale skellies' CR soon so that players would visit there more often. or maybe just nerf their hp to twice what they have to give fighter-types more of a chance and opportunity to visit the area. that way, giants wont be as crowded and hopefully contribute to server latency issues

I agree! Bring back the cluster!

/me wants to kill the Lag Demon permanently, not just weaken him.

scripts that fire when an area is entered or the server is running....the AI buffing scripts for the mobs is one.
