Plz Fix the unbalanced nature of NS4

Post by TerminalVelocity »

Look i been playing on here for a while under a few usernames and the 1 thing i notice the most is this - There is virtually no balance here!

This server is so biased to wizards it is not even funny anymore. I mean really comapre a high lvl wiz with a high lvl fighter or ranger etc its crap. The most important things the devs can do here is get the devastating critical working here bloody hell just look around where are all the fighters on this server there are none compared to the number of wizards and why ill tell you why bigby's and wail vs ice giants 10 of em even - try that with the same lvl ranger and u get hammered in 2 rounds! + no animal companion for the ranger or druid. I know devs are working hard but seriously this server has nerfed many many things. You have nerfed dragon shape cause it was unstoppable, lots of the cities guards now repeatedly cast freedom of movement so there goes stonehold basically for the druid (Druid is now nerfed) I realise u made several minor changes to certain wiz spells like issacs, but what are u doing for the straight fighter or ranger?? the only time i see a ranger is with rogue and or SD. Straight fighter lol never. Straight fighters need devestating crit I mean its kind of a pinacle of fighterdom the Wiz has his wail, bigby's and issacs what does the straight fighter have ??? i tell you he should have devestating crit. I mean im not even talking about PvP here im talking about and you all know its true the time it takes to lvl a char is ridiculous if you are a fighter or ranger! take the correct feats and a wiz is wailing rooms full of xp rich ice giants etc and flying through the lvls try it some time with slash/pierc or slash/bludge resistant enemies as a fighter! IT SUCKS BIG TIME the amount of clones running around is funny too, all those ppl with the same wpns same classes only the names are different. I realise some peoplel are bucking the trend and making really different characters but there are not many. So to finish up dont nerf wiz thats not what we need we just need more balance for the fighter classes oh and by the way 1 person saying it aint gonna get nothin done if you are out there and i know you all are longing for a fighter or ranger who can be trully legendary than post something man COME ON.

all i have really need to say is 1 word: PARTY!

Take your 'pure' ranger or fighter, join him up with a cleric or mage who buffs you... ta-da! ultimate killing machine. On a low-magic world such as ns4, partying with others to compliment abilities is the only way to go, this isn't Diablo2 after all.. if you want to solo try NS3.5 (but you'll be bored in a short time).

i just listened to your whole argument on NS4 shout.... Have to agree on some points: casters are more powerful than melee post level 20, but that is balanced (IMHO) by the fact that melee Pwnz magic prior to 20. I play a barbarian named rudash, and have done most of my leveling with a sorcerer. until he got finger of death, he was getting stomped by everything, while i was happily bashing everything in sight. now that we're 18/19 respectively, im starting to get thrown around, and he is coming into his own. woul I like something to make me more powerful later in the game? Of course! But Dev crit is way to overpowered, and would make fighters more overpowered vs mages than mages are vs fighters now. Basically im saying that, as a fighter, quit complaining!

I actually play a 26th level Barbarian/Fighter (i.e. straight fighter type) and I agree on some points. I can't pvp a straight mage unless I get the drop on him. If we are both prepared for combat the straight mage will drop me no questions asked, but if he has to spend even 2 rounds casting buffs the caster doesn't stand a chance. ST builds do have a place in NS4 but you will take your licks getting there. I don't think that Dev Crit is the answer.

And hope you find a lot...I nearly went through a whole stack of them last week trying to hold of a KST raid of LA territory.

OK, I do try to avoid being polemic on the forums, but I think a bit of honesty here will help the discussion.

NS4 lacks any creativity. Utterly.

Playing a pure fighter alone in the world is not just unadvisable here in Neversummer, but in any form of NWN at all. Dungeons and Dragons is a game based on magic; fighters function in PnD D&D only because they have mages to back them up (hence J'ain's above argument about partying). If you plan on partying, a tankish pure fighter will be a godsend as it absorbs incoming blows. However, a fighter without backup versus a wizard is simply contrary to the way DnD and NWN are designed; us "nerfing" wizards or sorcerers isn't solving a problem, because there isn't a problem to start with.

If you plan on soloing in Neversummer, you need to move beyond the paradigms of the basic class choices. Even pure arcane casters are weak; you'll find the "cheese builds" on any server branch out into Shadowdancer or Paladin or Monk or some other set of skills to back up their casting abilities. The same is true with fighters: a fighter who neglects to develop anti-magic skills is as moronic a choice as a wizard who neglects to put up a spell mantle, as you'll find the lower saves of the mantle-less wizard makes him far more vulnerable to counterattack than the undefended fighter. Pidgeonholing a Fighter so all he does is take as many melee damage feats as possible is no different than pretending every other character is just like yours; you must prepare.

Getting punked by IGMS and Bigsby? Play a pure monk and become immune to magic. Or play a RDD and boost your strength to the sky and discover that having 45 STR makes Bigsby fall off you like butter and ride out the 140/round IGMS with a high constitution. Or if you're a fighter type, multiclass into Cleric or Druid and use their elemental/magical buffs to bypass a mage's damage reduction and mantles the old fashioned way. Use the Spell Resistence spell every chance you can; it's better than Spell Mantle, can't be MDJ'ed, and even at low or multiclassed levels it will protect you against many more a spell than pretending it doesn't exist.

Getting Shadowdanced? Buff spot and use True Sight; it is MUCH easier on this server to get a high spot than a high hide skill, trust me. Or use Listen with the ubiquitous Bard or Ranger, because it's even harder to buff Move Silently, and fewer people bother with it. Or even be a pure Druid and take Dragonshape (or Shifter with Outsider Shape); innate True Sight hits a hider every time automatically. Dwarven Defender and Champion of Torm both get Spot as a class skill; multiclass into them and improve your skill while still being a fighter type. Heck, CoT gets amazing save bonuses to the point where epic CoT can flaunt any spell with a save.

If you use Death Ward, Spell Resistence, Shadow Shield, Energy Buffer, True Sight, Darkfire, Greater Magic Weapon (and the list just goes on), you'll find that all the tools to beating any class combination are already in the game, unnerfed and unconsidered by many cocky enemies. It's only when people decided amongst themselves that they have to go down the most common and "cheesiest" road to builds that they forget that the means to beat them are right in front of them if they're willing to take the time to be creative and combine them into a unique, responsive build.

Just be creative, and you'll be amazed at what you can do with ease.

OK, I'm done being pissy. Back to the fun! :)

Yonwe made a great point, the straight fighter build sucks in the first place. You need to be creative and be add something in there besides clicking the "recomended" button over and over each time you hear 'ding.' I have never used a mage build, I always use halflings. Just to be different, because I'm so tired of the people who always go for the uber-meta-build. I've got a kender bard, barbaric stealthy ghostwise (hes level 29!), and a fighting strongheart halfling. On a side note to DMs, maybe in the next update or someting you could add some CITIZENS of Evenshire in there? If no one else noticed, for some reason every single halfling in Evenshire is employed into its militia except for the bartender (which no citizens go to because there are none), apartments manager of a desolate apartment, and some other guy.

And more to the point, D&D has never been conceived as a pvp game; teamwork has always been part of gameplay. That's one of the reasons why some builds in NWN are ungodly powerful in pvp, because pvp isn't considered when the different classes are put together.

That's because those halflings have no choice, look how many people beat up on them all the time.

Hear Hear Yonwe! :) I went into my Barbarian knowing that he would probably get throw anround later in the game, but I like fighters =P

If all you do is add one person to your team (a sorcerer, cleric, druid, whatever) you add so much firepower its unreal. At level 20, with full buffs from my sorcerer buddy, im hitting over 40 a hit, hitting every time, and impervious to almost everything! And I'm getting better as I level! Who needs finger of death, when you can buff a barbarian and let him have fun?

If you are dead-set on soloing, then going pure anything is gonna hurt you. a mage could always use more hp; a barbarian could use more feats; a fighter needs more skill points; a rogue has no magic of his own; etc. Mix & match if youre gonna solo!!!!
