DM quests.
DM quests.
Do they ever happen?
I'd love more opportunities to rp on this server. I'm not saying we turn the place into Narfell, just that DMs throw a bit of story into the world that encourages players to play out the role of their characters.
Kidnapped daughters, lost artifacts, rampaging dragons, anything!
Oh, talking about dragons, where did that penned up dragon in Avendell go to! I thought that was kinda funny.

They come and go with server resets, along with the Helm's Altar of Judgment and all other DM placeables.Girl wrote:Oh, talking about dragons, where did that penned up dragon in Avendell go to! I thought that was kinda funny.
But, it's such a draining job that, until you've DMed on an NWN server yourself, you the playerbase, have got to cut the DMs some slack. - Flailer

Well, tonight we just took out a bunch of ogres and giants guarding a treasure up on Giant Mountain.
Granted, their treasure was a bunch of ale that the dwarves in our groups greedily guzzled. But, fun was had by all.
A couple of nights ago I also was introduced to Tempus (who made his first appearance in this realm to my knowledge) and tonight both Tyr and Sune made an appearance.
Mental note : Don't taunt gods or they may summon giants on ya. But, really. Can you blame a Chaotic-Evil half-orc rogue/barbarian/blackguard for taunting the god of justice? Vrok Deltergink and Tyr couldn't really be much more opposite.
Sune also made her presence known with the pretty little green glitter adorning random people.
So, yes... They do happen. But, they are also somewhat cyclical. It tends to run in a positive feedback loop. The more people that enjoy the random appearance of a god and/or quests the more the gods want to play with of mere mortals. But, the more that people gripe or expect "more" out of a quest or just bungle it where the gods have to work just to keep everyone alive... Well, then that discourages them.

There was a LOT of DM activity today... I was working so I missed the (almost) return of Shiv'... but the highlight for me was when I inadvertantly taunted a DM in party chat while I was solo (and totally UNBUFFED) in FD crypt...

The best part is I said that, then let out a war cry and most of the Defenders (visually) cowered in FEAR of me! Gotta love it - Vivat Tiamat!!
And before you ask- no i didn't die, yes I was healing; I did get hit while disarming my shield to cast some spells, and sadly, no i didn't get any helms or armour
guess I will have to raid NS city sometime.

I really hope my first post wasnt taken the wrong way. I'm not complaining. Just wondering.
TheBestDeception: So according to those links you posted, the last DM quest was back in August?
Jain: So jealous, both of your DM action and your good looks. So .. If I taunt a DM, will I get some special attention?
I'll be waiting by the gate.

Of course not. I was merely answering your question of whether they happened ... which they do. Those are just the people nice enough to have showed their appreciation of such.So according to those links you posted, the last DM quest was back in August?
Interaction is frequently in several magnitudes...
1) Encounters. Enemies where they should not be and the like, often providing a tailored challenge to the player.
2) Random Quests. Can vary in size or complexity, but tend to take a bit of time. More involved than the simple "kill these guys" encounters. Generally involves a single party
3) Planned Quests. Set time and date to participate ... generally involves a large serverwide party.
Of the third group, we have run several of those before, with great feedback (though none recently ... is this what you were referring to?). Perhaps some more can be planned...
But, it's such a draining job that, until you've DMed on an NWN server yourself, you the playerbase, have got to cut the DMs some slack. - Flailer
No, August is far from the last time that there's been one; between Tyr, Helm, and myself, there've been at least four in the past three days. Not big ones, mind you, but something to keep it interesting when we find several players mulling about in the same location while we're online. Sometimes, it's just the luck of being in the right place at the right time if we don't have something big planned beforehand... perhaps just such a thing will happen this Saturday night, hint hint?

And last night was a little bit of DM fun as well. Though, no big quests, actually.
One thing I learned, look for DMs online when you sign on and are choosing your character. They'll be listed as one of the people online.
I saw that Lolth was online so instead of bringing in my half-orc or halfling like I had planned I pulled in my drow cleric. Upon entering I shouted "Hail Lolth!"
I was healed (though already at max HP anyways, but it was a nice gesture since I was in Amazon City) and got a nice red glow around me. Lots of fireworks as well for a few minutes. I joined up with a party raiding the Amazon City. When they started hailing Lolth the fireworks got REALLY pretty and more of us became marked in red.

Yes, the DMs were having a lot of fun yesterday. I was heading back to Avendell through windale, when LA decided to take advantage of my killing of the town's NC inhabitants:
