The Neverending Hide vs. Spot

Post by Holghask »

I did some extensive testing tonight with my buds. It seems to me that sneak characters are very weak on this server when in PvP battles. The problem is that sneaks get no notice that they've been spotted when fighting in a PK battle. When fighting mobs, they always get a notice letting them have the option to hide again. Can this message be added for when a hostile player spots a hidden char? I would think this would be easy enough....maybe not however.

Giving the message while in PvP in addition to vs mobs may help sneaks some in PvP battles.

Furthermore, in extensive testing, it seems that an equal spot (+50) vs an equal (+50) hide (listen was very low for the spotter ie +10 and move silently was +50 for the hider) resulted in advantages for the spotter. the spotter sees the hider for almost 6 secs (1 round) before opposed checks spot vs hide are rolled again. This can be changed with a simple message to the hider indicating they have been spotted (an active hide check can be made at any time, thus negating the 6 secs a hidden char appears for).

In our tests, equal spot vs equal hide resulted in the spotter having a distinct advantage even though the rolls should be theoretically equal (1d20 +50 spot vs 1d20+50 hide). Also, the hider was visible for more than 1/2 the time.

Perhaps adding the message and making the max hide acheivable on the server = +5 more than the max spot acheivable would even things out?

Seems to me sneaks are the weakest class because they have no idea if their hide is working or not vs other players... thx! :)

Throw in an INT check for the sneaker to see if he notices that he is spotted. Also make it dependant on level as well.

yep hide will always be at the low end on this server ... i have given a few ideas to help fix this problem ... like if true seeing adds 20 to spot why not let invis add 20 to hide ? or darkness for that matter. The only class that can come close to beating the sick spot is a ranger or druid built too hide and thats alot of sacrafice with feats and such. there are ways a rogue can make up for it though . like for Artemis , he carries a nice supply of mord scrolls around with him. once with land and concealment and craftable and can bump your hide alot . word of advice to all the rogues out there .... UMD is your best freind in ns4 :)

Maybe invis is +10 hide, and concealed is +10 hide?
