Faster Travel needed
I had an hour and a half spare this morning, thought I'd log in, nip up Giant mountain and make myself 3-5k xp in a nice easy stroll.
Log in to Avendell, check out giant mountain, no spawns all the way to 1st level caves, didn't bother checking 2nd or 3rd. Decide to go beat up Yuan-ti city. Walk there, no high level yuan ti around. Plenty of standard though. Decide to kill nearby dragon. No dragon there. Check the time, 1.25 hours gone, just time to walk back to Avendell and log out.
In 1.5 hours playing I got 800 xp from effortless mobs who didn't get out of my way when I wanted to just walk past them. Nearly all of that time was just walking to get to somewhere I could hunt. That isn't particulary fun.
Something needs to be put in to speed up travel, even if its only being able to recall to your bind point to save the long walk back.

That would be true if this was a roleplay server (A land too far insists players don't run as DM's can't click on them as they go past!), but its an action server. Admitedly, it is bad luck that all 3 places I chose to check weren't spawning, but I don't think I should have to spend one days playing time to walk to where I can find something to kill. The whole point of slow travel is that you can just log off and pick up next time
My (current) main char is a lvl 18 wiz who funnily enough needs a safe place to log so he can recast his buffs, relearn his spells before adventuring etc. While I could log out on giants peak to save the walk next time, all that would realistically happen is I would die when I logged in as I rapidly run out of spells. Maybe it would work for fighters who don't need buffs to survive, but not wiz's or sorcerors.
To tell if its a problem, do a survey on how many people ask party members to kill them so they don't have to walk back to their spawn point. (I've killed at least 2 in the last 3-4 days including my 1st lvl 40 (so he removed all his eq and stood there, I killed a lvl 40 anyway

Sad to see that people dismiss the possibility of actually roleplaying on this server. Roleplaying isn't enforced, true, but it sure ain't forbidden either. So I do it whenever there's a chance, because it's fun and increases the level of immersion, it might slow down my exp per hour, but it sure does increase my fun/hour. Because there ain't no epic areas, above level 25 there's nothing better than killing beetles & rats and at level 40 there's nothing better to do besides showing Nomius what he's worth, and we all know that by now. The real fun for me is along the way up, not at the top.scruffyspellslinger wrote:That would be true if this was a roleplay server
back on topic:
i think the main issue here was indeed those 3 areas that were broken at the same time, bit of unluck maybe, but mountain trail breaks so often that I do a shout 'is mountain trail broken?' upon login ... And i'm not the only one who does it, as it's a big area and it's quite dissapointing to walk over half a dozen screens all the way down to level 3 to see that nothing has moved since yesterday. My point is i'd rather run normal speed thru a populated area than running hasted thru empty screens.

to drag this kicking and screaming off topic
Dismiss the possibility of roleplaying? Nope, but I will admit I find I do very.very little atm. (A lot less than I thought I would)Sad to see that people dismiss the possibility of actually roleplaying on this server.
This I put mostly down to soloing wizards is hard. I find that if I'm walking up giant mountain and I find someone close to my level, I'll party them, whether friendly faction or hostile or drow (vs elf) whatever, to get a meat shield between me and mobs.
At first level my wiz made 50 xp per death i.e. to make 2nd I died a LOT solo. High level summons don't last long (1-2 maps depending on fighting), and while I can kill a Tree Smasher 1 on 1 without a pet, I can't if he has friends as my g.stoneskin/premonition breaks and then I get one-two hits and keel over. (AC is approx 26 so they don't miss much).
Besdies, if I really wanted to roleplay a Wizard, I demand a tower I can build in the middle of some forgotten forest to experiment in, and I want to gain xp from crafting items not lose it

kinda off the topic, but crafting magic items is supposed to take some of your XP... the RP reason being that the caster has to pour a little of their essence into the item to make it magical, creating magic takes a hell of alot out of you.

I really hate rping travel long distances. I can use up alot of gear like arrows defending from the monsters along the way to where I really want to go to.
Too bad we don't have teleport points.

The various rift portals you see will (hopefully) lead to the epic planar areas.
Gnolls, Giant Cave, South Tower, Formians, etc will all have the portal open to a planar area.
As far as moving long distances...maybe you could use some haste potions! There's some kind of contest where someone's giving away lots of hastes. It's on the general board!
