Safe spot on server portal

Since you lose all spell effects inc. sumons on a server portal it would be a good idea to put a small safe area on each side of the portal.

My lvl 12 wiz fully buffed went from Old Wyrn Road to Ash Mountain (server portal) straight into 2 young dragons which spawn there. No chance to cast anything or even blink before they attacked. The only option is to portal back as 1 breath can kill me outright. Unless there is another way to Ash mountin (probably but I don;t know it), my wiz can't ever get there unless partied and he waits while the portal area is cleared before entering.
