i was playing today in AO and hated how none of my gear matched and disliked usng a light blue/white armor when im not of good alignment
so i was thinkin, what if each faction's items had their own color to them?
for example:
everything from AO would be colored red (Red DD), SL would get black items, NC would get white, LA blue, TC green, MA purple, and RK bronze
this way u could easily tell who is from what faction and i think it would look cool
also there would have to be a way to change the color of dropped items to your factions colors so if u got a helm from dwarves u could change the color to match the rest of your stuff. this could be done with some kind of elaborate script that checks your items and changes them to the right color, or just a dye merchant in your town so u can do it yourself.
i dunno i think this is a good idea and so did a couple of other people i asked...but lets get some feedback
faction item color

Each dye does both the "primary " and "secondary" colours (metal 1, metal 2), depending on what you chose. Dyes WILL be implemented through specialty merchants, but that's much lower on the priority scale than getting the hardware a permanent fix, or getting jobs into all factions.
The idea of having "faction colours" has been kicked around by the devs and DMs, with one concept being to limit the number of colours sold in each faction's territory to 2 or 3 colour groups (light, mediun, and dark blue being one group, for example). Other colours would be available at other shops in the smaller towns, or remote locations. Oh, did I mention, there are now more than 30 dye shades of each type, NOT counting mirror, midnight, and snow.
Once implemented, dyes WILL be a money sink, costing a substantial amount per bottle. And since each type of armour has metal, cloth, AND leather parts, multiple bottles of dye will be required for the desired effect.
