PK counter

Post by Nocturne »

Was wondering how hard it would be to put in a PK counter?

If it isn't too hard maybe adjust it to only count PKs within +/- 5 lvls of the toon? (no counts for PKing lowbies, etc)

Also, maybe add a feature to list what faction the PKed were from?

Could maybe add to the Faction book to enable/disable this feature.

Idealy would count your PKs and when your PKed (again within +/- 5 lvls)

Possible? Would be a fun addition to the PKnotify :)

If not possible, meh, no worries, just a thought :)

Wow, no comments or concerns? I've seen this done on other server so maybe it isn't too hard to put in. The tricky part, i'm guessing, is adding it to notice each faction kills. Any thoughts??

This has been mentioned in the past (by others as well as myself)

July 2009

I'm guessing it's lower priority than other development areas.

Yeah, I like the idea, I just didn't anything to say since it had been discussed in the past. This can be my official post of support.

I could possibly get behind adding a kill count, though I doubt I'd do vs specific factions.

Step 1: Record all the kills to an external DB. Include the killer, and faction, the victim, and faction, timestamp, map(location).

Step 2: Create a command interface, or an in-game object (like relic counter) to report back stats.

Step 3: Create a website allowing similar, possibly more enhanced searches/reporting.

TBH, statistical reporting was something that was absolutely huge in MY past MMOG community. The game had no real stats built in- only a kill message that could be turned on/off (like pknotify). Access to statistics and reporting caused a huge resurgence of interest in the game, and it was slowly improved over time to expand the features and web site capabilities.

Awesome idea... but one addition.. add a seperate counter for pks of toons that are X levels lower than you. X is a scaling number that starts at 2 lvls differance at lowest levels and ends at 5 for late 30's. This will provide a truer count of worthy kills.

And ofcourse possible RP Bounties for known toon villians

One number including all kills all factions all levels. If you dont value a given PK then don't do it.

I have no wish to have a server crash because ognib's new player kill count ends up at like a billion thousand.

Also, that type of dual logging player that would set a SoV in a spawn, come back every X time. Or a Cloudkill or something.

My main concern is that doing that completely eliminates any possibility of running some kind of a competition based on K/D ratio or most kills or, more likely, most deaths.

This isn't exactly embedded db here, that's a lot of info that'll multiply when server is more stressed (more people on). Yah, we save and sniff a lot of data, but don't use the db for it. Also need to dig up the link to Zeb's heatmap generator.

Anyway, always liked the Fallout series' counter, that's probably doable. Everything by race, save like total hit dice and some pvp specific things...
