Fix Ave Sign to read "No hostile action beyond this point."
Fix Ave Sign to read "No hostile action beyond this point."
I want to stress that I don't have any problem with any of the rules about the no combat within ave / within the fences outside of Ave. Also, these rules seem clear when they are read in the rule list and online.
This is only a request to change the wording on the signs. Last time I checked (a couple days ago), the signs in front of Ave still basically read something like: "Respect Ave's Neutrality" and "No combat within the gates of Ave". That's not a direct quote, but it's something really close to that.
Many people still seem to be confused, primarily because of the "within the gates of ave" part. See, a gate is typically something that one would open and go through. And, the walls that jut out aren't gates. The rules clear this up well as they say something like "this includes the area inside the perimeter fences of Ave." However, when in the heat of battle, most noobs (I even forgot once early on and was punished accordingly) don't remember the wording of the rule, look at the sign and think, "not inside the gate, fair game" as the signs right there talk about the gate.
A simple solution that would cause the rules to be followed more and easier to remember. The sign should simply be changed to read:
"No hostile action beyond this point."
Or at least something really similar. The "beyond this point" part is the key here. I don't think anyone would ever confuse that wording, and it would be there on display all the time for a constant reminder.
Anways, thanks for letting me come here and post suggestions. I hope this one is considered as it seems to be a simple and clear change that would help everyone.

I guess we should consider that after 5 years of it being the way it is. We're getting more people who don't know how to ask, or read rules and who refuse to register to the forums.
Oh wait if we change the sign that will cut down on my banning opportunities.

Why would I want to count 12 hours twice? I’m perfectly capable of counting to 24, and while we’re at it, can someone go shoot named time zones. GMT+x is all we need!

Well 2 things come to mind when "you" actually read the signs, it states no hostile action are to take place beyond the gates but the sign holders are not gates-- so it should read "no hostile action will take place beyond these signs". And if a relic raider happens to go beyond this sign to take refugee is that legal since they are harboring this relic? I was merely defeating the said toon and he ran here to rest and heal from my blades, I didn't pursue the quarry because i knew I was right and the said person was wrong, but clarification is always helpful.

No attacking beyond the signs. . . so I will bring my 75 AB AA and step outside the signs. . . nail off a few rounds. You get close I step inside the signs and say "sanctuary" and you cant attack me. You walk away and I rinse and repeat my operation. . . simple as that.

In commandment II you'll notice where it says, "This includes the areas inside the preliminary fences of Avendell." Anyone with common sense would've figured out that it refers to the rock walls. How far do the rock walls extend? To the signs.
Those signs are Avendell's boundary markers, and anyone committing illegal acts within those boundary markers are subject to the penalities set forth by the staff.

right, but the issue is that the signs themselves, not the commandments, are unclear.Ghostly wrote:In commandment II you'll notice where it says, "This includes the areas inside the preliminary fences of Avendell." You just answered your own statement. If the commandments seem clear enough, then those signs shouldn't be a problem.Rufio wrote:right, but the issue is that the signs themselves, not the commandments, are unclear.

They are contradictory. It can be confusing. I am just sympathizing with the original poster. I am aware of the rules.Ghostly wrote:You just answered your own statement. Get a good SS of the attacker attacking from behind the signs and send it to a DM they will be dealt with.
And a last point about the signs. As Ghostly said, the rule in in their Journal. Not our problem if they can't read. There is absolutely nothing confusing about the rule.
We can take the signs out completely or scribe the song "Old McDonald's Farm" or "Have a Nice Day" on them. It doesn't change the rule.
End of discussion.
