Relic Hiding
I’ve seen this tactic used and it is a bit frustrating. A player is able to defeat the NPC defenders and take a relic. Occasionally, as players rally to defend the raider chooses to evade continually in order to delay the inevitable. Ultimately the defenders just go to the raiding faction to intercept. All of this is fine.
What is irritating is when a player drops the relic and hides it. Further delaying the inevitable. Even to the point of logging off and waiting to come back and pick it up later.
Of course, there is always a message stating, “The Relic of ____ has been dropped by ____.” Could this message be modified to say, “The Relic of ____ has been dropped by ____ on the Silver Road.”
I know the diviners can help but it is really discouraging to have to run a defender back to the home faction to check with a diviner just because someone didn’t want to lose a battle.
This would also be very handy in the event that raiders chose to transfer the relic to a runner.
Just my thoughts,

Re: Relic Hiding
I do beleive that Auril first encouraged this tactic. The tradition still continues to this day.

Re: Relic Hiding
Just and FYI, LA invented this tactic...... I agree it is frustrating, infact i purposed a limit on the time a relic can stay out of a cradle and not return to its home cradle, think i got shot down in flames on that one.
I am sure the topic is on the boards still if you care to search.
edit: got beat by ajantis... i still think it was LA though lol

Auril likely rewarded LA for it

Heh, whoever it was, it is fun for the underdog to annoy the big faction. It's part of the game. Besides just log a char in NS city. No need to run back.
At least your diviners arent spread out all over outposts like NC. Now that is annoying

Re: Relic Hiding
It supposed to be annoying! Why else would anyone do it?
Its a tactic best employed when your lone in your faction and there's 10+ defenders/raiders running around. What are you gonna do ? Put the relic in your cradle where the said raiders will walk right over you?
It's so funny that whoever controls the relics most at certain times will always be the ones to complain !!

Re: Relic Hiding
Relic hiding is annoying, however it is legal. In the past, relic hiding was a common part of relic warfare.
Once upon a time, when the server did not have auto resets, there was a faction that looked for their relic for 5 hours. However, just think of all the maps they learned and enjoyed whilst looking.
On the other hand, it is illegal to drop/hide a relic in such a way that no one can reach it. This is an exploit, do not do that.
The shout message will not be changed to specify relic location, when dropped. Go see your diviner, and she will be happy to tell you the current location of your relic.
p.s. Thanks for posting your opinion/query on this issue, and feel free to do so in the future.

Re: Relic Hiding
Relic hiding is annoying. That's the point. When we were outnumbered even worse than we are now, i would grab gonzo and steal a relic, never cap it, never stop moving, and basically waste a few hours of the LA gents time trying to find me. Its a great tactic in my opinion.
Eventually i would receive about 10 tongue lashings from the LA players and i would drop it somewhere so they would stop yelling at me. As soon as they entered the zone to pick it up, i would grab it and move it. Frustration would take them and they would scream and shout about what a pain in the butt i was. For a few minutes, just a few mind you, me and my brothers could sit back and enjoy the fact that we may take the bruising most of the time, but you LA guys will never ever ever ever ever get you relic if i don't choose to let you have it. Guerrilla warfare is a viable tactic in my opinion
I only employed this tactic for a few weeks. As much fun as it was, it takes lots of time and after doing it 3 or 4 times, my frustrations in being outnumbered 4 to 1 all the time were vented.

Not sure, but I do know that the power players of MA, at that time, became very, very good at knowing all the maps of Aetheria.Blystos Re wrote:Wasn't that the time when MA had them and they didn't yet know where "Hidden Room" was?

Re: Relic Hiding
It is all part of the fun hiding relics. Forces have to divide in order to chase you down or retrieve the hidden relic to make a fun time. Yes it can be annoying but it is all part of the game since the beginning of relics here.

If Relic Hiding is legal can it be made that relics can be dropped without logging out??Dalan wrote:Relic hiding is annoying, however it is legal. In the past, relic hiding was a common part of relic warfare.

Re: Relic Hiding
Again this was just a thought and I'm admittedly limited on the history of the server. And please don't feel like I'm complaining. I'm not. And I thought of this NOT because this was done to me. It wasn't. I saw it done to Moon and felt bad cause she spent a lot of time looking for her relic to no avail.
I know this cat and mouse aspect is part of the game and it is fun when you are chasing a player. However, when the player abandons the relic it isn't cat and mouse any longer. Its cat vs object. The raider is able to waste another player's time while not having to sacrifice his own.
The message wouldn't change whether the tactic was viable it would just encourage a player to continue holding it vs dropping it and going to do something useful. If they drop it kind of starts the clock starts ticking forcing the raider to pick it up or loose it. I'm not to interested in a game of find the relic.
It would not change the fact that a player could still run to a very remote place or unknown place or place with a vauge description and drop it. This would still force some hunting and exploration. The message would simply avoid players from having to return home to check diviners for the same info which might let them get there quicker which might result in some PVP vs PVMap.
Oh well. Fun discussion and thanks for the replies.
