Account deletion!!!

I am posting this in this topic because it is an idea and a suggestion.

How about giving someone a warning before deleting their account? A certain person in a position of power deleted someone's account without warning for whatever reasons. It may or may not have been warranted, but still no warning or even a ban was initiated. Well, many of the items on that account were guild and personally loaned items. So now MY stuff got deleted when I have not done a darn thing to anyone!!! I am not going to point fingers or call anyone out on this, but not cool and bad form. Since when did people get their accounts deleted for minor offenses without warning or receiving a ban first? Even Eb and the MD at their worst received a lot more grace.

Hard to warn him when his forum account was first deleted... but account bans aren't supposed to be convenient anyway. Almost all of the MDs (myself included) were innocent victims of the MD wipe that happened several months ago... sucks but we moved on. At least you didn't lose all your characters...

Did I say you didn't? I was not even trying to come across as hostile or nasty in my post. It was not an attack on the staff.. that is why I didn't mention names or point fingers or make accusations. With a little warning I could have gotten back my Hope Crushers and other items that were out.

All I am saying is that punishment can often be a little to severe or swift compared to the crime. I didn't see anything that should have resulted in a complete toon deletion for the accused. It just makes one nervous as to what small infraction must be committed to have such dire consequences.

Chase, all that the NS staff does is much appreciated by myself and by all the other players I am sure. But, remember that without the players NS does not exist either. Try that +1 stick that you love from time to time rather than pull out the vorpal blade and go for the throat.

Anyways, all I am saying is that some form of warning would have been appreciated, or at least inform the guild that action must be taken or consequences will follow. Things could have been handled differently is all.

Gorn..all items in the game are pretty easy to farm and get back. i'm sure you'll have no problems finding another hope crusher and whatever else was on that account.


as far as everything getting deleted...i know exactly where his chars are, and all his stuff is intact in that spot

This may be entirely unrelated, but a guild leader asked me to suspend the Guild Toons belonging to a certain account of a rogue member - and so I did. Non guild toons from that account are still perfectly playable.

If that guild member didn't tell the player then that's no the fault of the staff - especially as many of the game account names do not match the forums ones.

Remember we hold guilds responsible for the actions of their members. In order for that to be viable we must back the guild leaders up in situations like this.

If you think you have had your account banned without warning and you're a member of a guild - try a non-guild toon to confirm - it may be the result of party politics!

Ya, it will just take some time, plus I have duplicates of many of the items already. But since our guild was not given the option to deal with this matter before the deletion... can MA have Rangers now???

zing if i understand correctly this is not related to the action you describe here. i think the concern is a separate no-warning deletion as first punishment, which is different from how we've seen other problems dealt with if that indeed was the case.

we are, of course, all "playing in someone else's living room," and at their expense too, so really there is not much to say.

Thats why it was posted under ideas and suggestions, and not worded in any hostile fashion or with an attitude.

But, even with that understanding we, the players, should still be able to inquire about things. Especially when it is involving guild members and the guild was overlooked as a possible solution. And since it seems that no one else in IO has the brass to ask the staff for whatever reasons, I become the sacrificial lamb to address the powers that be. But know that IO did step in to calm the situation, but it was probably a few hours to late. Granted we cannot regulate non-tagged toons, we expect tagged toons to follow the wishes of the Order and collective players.

What is wrong with killing the dragons? Are the players of NS4 that useless that they cannot play the game without the dragons? Those dragons should not exist anyways. They have created a sense of laziness in the game and made half of the maps unused. I went on a spree sometime back killing the dragons every time I logged on just to force people to actually have to learn the maps and stop being mice running the "Dragon maze." So I honestly do not see anything wrong with someone logging on and killing the dragons. If anything I think it forces better game play from the players, despite the whining that they have to walk places. And if relic wars are going on, well, come on now.. that just adds even more spice to the game.

As far as publicly stating he was not going to play anymore... I can think of several names that have done the same, remained a pain in the butt and annoyed the crap out of us all while they were playing other games, and yet they still have their accounts even when they stated they were not coming back.

Look, I am not going to fight someone else's battles here, and that is not my intention. You guys do as you want and see fit. All I can do is share some insight, my thoughts, and my opinions with you guys. I just hope to share an outside view with you guys that may or may not be beneficial. I also hope to gain insight as how to prevent future situations and hopefully others will as well.

P.S. Out of general curiosity... how is someone suppose to defend themselves or answer alligations if they have no access to do so in the game or in the forums?

Nothing, but that wasn't really my point. Let me paraphrase myself:

as i've been told repeatedly, killing dragons is not causing trouble for other players. it's legal and part of the game. That leaves stating that he was no longer going to play as the reason for deletion?

if it's possible to take this to PMs i would prefer that, if i knew who best to ask these questions of on the staff.
