thats whats at the heart of this metis. to move the dragon outside ave would probley mean removing the fence in my vision atleast. thats what kinda started me going on it.

but i do like some of the ideas suggested and think they are atleast fun to talk about. so shall we get back on topic.

Moving right along......

I believe the Citizens of Avendell are getting fed up with the abuse of their hospitality. Too often faction members walk the streets with weapons in hand. The guards should make an active effort to stop these rude people. To start, there should be a guard at each of the three entrances to the city which must give permission to anyone who wishes to enter. These guards can check to see that noone enters the city with an equipped weapon (this can be scripted). Guards in the city can also check for equipped weapons. Anyone found in the city with an equipped weapon will be prohibited from entering the city in the future (i.e. they get a hidden token which will be recognized by the gate guards). People would still be able to try before you buy in the shops as there are no guards there, but would have to remember to disarm before leaving. For those that say "I forgot" , that's just too bad. The gate guards can have an option to allow people to bypass the city to the next area (i.e. go from silver road directly to dark forest or terrace and the reverse). The dragon could be relocated to the terrace, there is a suitable area for landings and takeoffs. And for those that complain "what about monks " , anyone can fight with their hands, monks are just a little better at it, we're not gonna chop anyones hands off.
Here's the part some will love and others will hate. Gate guards should not allow anyone with a relic to enter Avendell. Taking a relic into Avendell is an abuse of the protection the guards provide.
The expense for the additional guards can be covered by charging an entry or bypass fee, say 100 gp/level.
Too many factions use Avendell as their base of operations instead of their home city and the Citizens of Avendell won't stand for it anymore.

Yes, part of this idea relates to role-playing. The faction war background for the module supports rp however most people here metagame. Would scripting be required for this, of course. Any change from the base bioware setup requires a script. What priority should this have? I would agree that faction jobs and other things would be more important. As for keeping the relics out of Avendell. This part related to a post made by Zing concerning dropping relics behind guild doors. Relics are intended to be in play all the time. ALL the time. Taking a relic into Avendell takes it out of play, even if for a short period of time. Changes to the relic system have been made with this intent. I thought it was a hoot to have a relic dropped next to the Fire Lord, but this was determined contrary to the intent of relic play. Yes, Avendell is the only land route to or from certain cities, hence the idea of a gate guard to allow bypass. If there is some other way to allow a relic runner to bypass Avendell, please let us know. As for relocating the dragon, the area I referred to as the terrace, it is officially know as "Terrace Mettle ". It's where the entrance to the Arena, Blue v Red, Soccer field and Thunderdome are. Perhaps some people have not been there? (or a couple hundred other places) since it is not on Giant Mountain.

Well, if this is the spirit behind the "law," then how is running off and hiding a relic in an obscure location (or just running around with it ad infintum) to be interpreted? I mean, it depends how you define being "in play." If someone is camping out in Avendell with relics, that to me would be objectionable; but so, imho, is hiding or running around with a relic. The intent is pretty much the same, it would seem - i.e., to keep others from reclaiming their relics or getting a bonus. Yet there those who will say that doing the one thing is WRONG, but doing the other is smart, resourceful.

Are the relics meant to be a King of the Hill or Hide and Seek enhancement? Those are two entirely different modes of game play and I personally don't think they co-exist well. But hey, I've been wrong about other things...

The difference is, even if your relic is dropped in the Halls of the Dead, you can still fight your way in and reclaim your relic. If a relic is dropped in some obscure location, consult your friendly neighborhood deviner for a clue. As long as the server displays "You are now in a Party PvP area", the relic is retrievable and thus is still "in play"...some are just more of a challenge than others.

If a player goes to Avendell and sits there for an hour while he shops and camps out and has a meal at the inn and plays with the chickens and pets the dogs...etc...he is keeping the relic "out of play" because NO ONE can pk him to retrieve it.

I hope that's clearer.

If a relic stays in a place where a player has no means on obtaining it (such as a plot flagged zone like Avendell) for more than is long enough to rebuff or quickly summon help, you will be asked to move on, or worse.

The difference between running around with a relic across the land, hiding it someplace sneaky, and just out and out taking it to a place where no one else can go or can't harm you is, there are procedures in place that allow for retrieval of a relic using only player intervention in the former 2 cases, as opposed to the latter 2. Now, how dedicated you are to the retrieval of said relic is entirely up to you.

Yes, I'm a DM, but your build still sucks.

I reread the topic and I didn't see anything about relics, just weapons exposed is all. If someone takes a shot at you get a DM or take/and Screenshot of it. I really never heard any real problems, move on.
