My guess was that he started in NC. Ive never played NC so i cant give you too much advice on that but alas fatzo here is right. LA is the easiest place to play if you dont know your way around the server. It's like a faction with training wheels.

Then, the more experienced players leave LA to join one of the more awesome factions like RK. :P 8)

It might be nice to steer new players to Last Alliance, and caution them away from the factions without complete jobs (AO, TC, & SL). MA, even with jobs, is still extremely difficult to start in, especially if you're hoping to party at low levels.

I certainly would have appreciated the suggestion of Last Alliance for my first character. As it turned out, I got so frustrated with my first, an AO archer, that I chatted with other players until I got some consensus to try LA instead. My AO archer was level 1 for a very long time until I figured how to get her to Avendell...

Looks like this has gotten off topic a bit.

I am not makng a statement of being bored, nor am I attempting to say that I am not impressed with the work that has been done here with this PW. It is very impressive and very interested. And I in no way indorce starting charaters at higher levels.

What I am sugesting is that some low level solo content be added to alllow new players to level their characters to the point where they can survive a combat with a CR 0.5 encounter.

Jobs are nice, (a wonderful inovation btw) and I am assuming that in other cases there are more than one or two options, but they do not provide regular xp.

Prehaps some sort of world teaching quests?

All in all, just a sugestion.

PS
Anywho, I think I'll go with Mythydr's sugestion above, and toss out my NC pally to make another toon in an area where I can group.

aye another thing with jobs -- dont get me wrong some job bonuses are very nice -- BUT just because a faction doesnt have a job doesnt mean that new players will become suddenelly lost and crippled because they dont have a job to follow (but it is nice to have a guidline)...all city outskirts have "noobie level " creatures and unless your a mage class, usually you can fair ok if you take it slow -- and yes run away.. :)

Why does everyone think mage classes are so hard to level at low levels? In my experience they've been the easiest. You dont have to worry about rolling to hit. Just go in there with rays of frosts and a summon. Let your summon tank while you pick off the rats. The poor light fighter classes (rouge, monk) have it the worst. No ab, no hp, no spells, no summon. The only option youve got is hit and run.

Gildren, what faction and level are you? Perhaps we can get someone who's had experience in that faction to help you out a bit. As for fighting strategies, dont try to take on an entire mob at once. Try to lure one or two over to you and if to many start to chase you, RUN!! There is no shame in running from rats at lvl 1. :P

A paladin in NC is off to a good start for solo work. Go out the south gate into the Daeron Outskirts, and there are plenty of low level undead, and a set of guards to run back to in case of trouble. On that same screen is a graveyard and a fenced in area. Both have undead to kill, and you can still run back to the guards. Getting the Vigilant quest will give you job points as well as xp. When you hit level 2 or so, you can go right one screen and there is a lot of undead. As you progress levels, it just gets easier.

One thing to remember: stay close to guards to avoid being overwhelmed.
And carry a club, mace, or morning star as well as your chosen weapon.

Thank you for your suggestions, and I have been doing them (running most often, even before I posted here). My expierence is though, that unless the spawn has generated a single mob, there is no "luring them off one by one."

I've started/pulled a single skeletion only to have rats from the other side of the screen charge in numbers. I have attacked an isolated skeleton only to find that I've now argoed everything on the map as if they were tied to "agro-groups."

These kinds of encounters are fine for groups, but a group at low level NC faction (and I suspect many other factions) is just not an option with a majority of the population in LA because, well, everyone is in LA.
