remember 2d12 = +13 for most, but +24 for a WM 7 times a day.

we already have fixed resists, with fixed weapon damages too this could get a bit too steady and reliable. random is good! otherwise you may as well just autokill anything lower level than you and skip the tedious part where you swing your weapon for 2 minutes.

You crit less than you hit, I can't see how using static amounts for massive crits will manifest itself as your little doomsday scenario.

And, random can't be that great seeing as how the server doesn't have fail saves on 1 enabled.
