as far as double ended weapons i have not seen anything worth using atm but you could look at the fliip side

I have a cleric monk wm in great sword wieldiong the Drow Great sword.
Now with the slow ability DC 18 is nice but mabey if the dc washigher it would help. Since you have no shield mabey an ability that would hinder the opponet would be nice. Also if you build it right the opponet shouldnt be able to hit you (ie knockdown called shot) i mean there are major upsides. Also as it being a large weapon disarm becoimes real effective

And with the WM levels i am averaging 115 a hit fully buffed so it doesnt seem too bad

i think im gonna make a double axe master now

Old topic...

Heres the problem with double weapons: +6 AC > 2 extra attacks and each attack having -2 AB with a (STR x 0.5) modifier on the off-hand and using up 2 extra feats... get the point? The penalties for dual-wielding are HUGE!

As for two-handed weapons, well they at least have the high dmg potential (Scythe parry-test barb I had pre-wipe would critical for 200+, and that didnt include WM)... but you still have the low-AC problem.

Of course, I'm not speaking from a dev perspective, but from a player perspective... perhaps double weapons could be given incentives to make them able to be considered seriously.
But, it's such a draining job that, until you've DMed on an NWN server yourself, you the playerbase, have got to cut the DMs some slack. - Flailer

so what difference is there between being a dualweidling LS and weilding a double sided sword? besides the option of dinterchanging the offhand sword to a shield?

i have a dualweilding [censored] sword WM and when i get hit, all i do is equip the shield...

maybe double sided weapons like the double axe/sword, dire mace, even staff and spear need a boost in defence...

BTW i havent seen a high lvl diremace at all :/ is that like the forgotten weapon? :D

Dual-wielding a long sword (or any other medium-sized weapon for that matter) will result in an additional -2 AB penalty per hit, on top of the -2 penalty (-4 total, for non-math majors). This assumes you have both Two-weapon fighting and Ambidexterity, of course.

On the other hand, a double-sided weapon (for penalty purposes) acts as if you have the minimum penalty, of merely -2 to each hit.

And I was incorrect in my previous post: you need the above 2 stated feats, in addition to Improved Two Weapon FIghting, to be most effective dual wielding.

improved 2 weapon feat just gives you the xtra attack thats all. and you always take a penalty no matter how many feats you have, its just that they can be reduced to a worthy amount.

3.5 revise

Post by MLoki »

I like the idea of xtra damage on the Great Axe and other two handed weapons. Anything that boosts the damage a bit would help. You can always go the route of 3.5 rules and allow Power attack to add double damage bonuses when using a two-handed weapon. If that ends up being too hard to script then the original suggestion of extra damage increased on two-handed weapons per level catagory would work as well. I'll keep using my Great Axe but the AC hit for me is only offset by my DR from epic Barbarian and my HP. Not a worthwile trade off if I can't keep at least some of my attackers knocked down. Usually I have to keep the fight 1 on 1. This could be why I have not seen any other 25+ two-handed weapon weilders around. Just some food for thought.

2-Handed weapons

Not all options should be equal when numbers are crunched, and if they should come someone please explain why my Elven Wizard doesn't have as many HP's as the Half-Orc Barbarian...

How about making it so the different weapon setups have different advantages.

Dual Weapon advantage is in the ability to have a larger offensive front, more attacks, and a quicker responce. Would it be possible to extend facings (so harder to flank), add to parry, add to initiative, or

How does bonuses to knock down, trip, and disarm skills for two-handed weapons sound... and it has a touch of realism too as a Greatsword should be better at kocking an oponent over than a rapier.
