You need it because monks (3+) and barbs will get much faster than others.
Didn't know they capped speed (just checked), which would be annoying but usually we want to slow players down anyway. Probably something to do with the 1.61 animation change and agony of the endless patches that still didn't get things back to as good as they were.
(In general, nwnwiki has a lot of misinfo, maybe more so than the ns4 wiki.)

Consider nwnwiki rumor until you actually check it (crit usually checks stuff he posts, maybe a few others do). I checked turning radius with a non-monk and different speed boosts, there's something there, but it's not exactly 50.

I've extensively tested angle running (i.e. strafe left or right and run forward) and I've never been able to go notably faster than others around me (in party, on relic raids, etc). It's possible I was gaining like 1-2%, maybe even up to 5%, but vector arithmetic would suggest a speedup of sqrt(2) = 1.4, and I was not nearly 40% faster than everyone else. Unless I was somehow hitting the 150% speed cap? I think I was usually testing it hasted, but how could they speed cap you if your speed-up were a bug in the first place? I did make a race track when I did the numbers for haste/whatever (script assign move somewhere, note time, grab time when finished and subtract).
When you move faster you turn in a larger circle than when slower, I just eyeball that (i.e. hold down w + a).
I didn't really comment on topic... Movement crap is engine problems. Thought about a few things, but don't work without hak (well work, but artifacts caused are too annoying).

I had an issue recently in PvP where bigby L7 (I think L7) was used on my CoT with monk + blinding on. When the spell expired; my speed was still reduced. I think blinding was removed before the blinding timer expired.
This happened each time; roughly 4 times. I believe the monk speed remained but blinding was removed. At least three of the times were right after rest and buff to defend. The speed 'seemed' the same as the PC runs with at normal monk speed.
