Simple PvP

Post by ATI »

Its going to happen to you. Someone you know and love has been PvPed. Its that simple. I know it pisses you and me off when I have to spawn half way across the world because someone decided to start their ego spell trip on ya. Its not nice. But is it fair? yes. Why? Because the theory of NS4's survivalism is that you too, at some point can rise to a lvl and PvP yourself.

Now....some things not to do..... don't take things personally. Most characters are really reasonable when it comes to PvP. Saying, "sorry my summon attacked you, here let me heal you." tends to get out of situations more times than I can count.

If you want to avoid PvP then there are places you should be more cautious around, Avendell, the LA faction areas, Mountain Trail, AO, Drow, MA territory. So far these areas have yielded the highest amount of PvP from what I have seen. TC doesn't have high enough chars to PvP people consistently. People in Daeron (NC) are generally good guys so PvP doesn't happen much

Now, remember folks, this is just a game. However if you push your PvP too far, it stops being a game and gets personal quickly. Yelling on shout to someone "OOHH I pwned j00 newb! don't come back here or else I'll make you my b**** again!" Goes beyond the, its just a game, framework. If you rock someone in PvP please be gracious about it and just ride on.

The key thing is this, PvP is sensitive, and upsetting at times. But it makes the game hazardous, caustic, and fun. It forces your char to use ingenuity to maneuver out of situations, and also forces better build creation.

Simply PvP can't and shouldn't be removed. As many people argue for more RPing and more realism in the game, PvP seems to be one of those most realistic factors that not many seem to advocate anymore. Furthermore, i am pretty sure PvP isn't ever going to be considered to be removed so lets do the following:

1: Try and talk over problesm that occur in game. Simply saying sorry and explaining your situation can go a long way.

2: If you can res or raise dead the char you just killed in the spirit of honor and warrior code. If you beat the char once, technically raising them to 1 hp shouldn't be that much of a threat.

3. Using PvP to resolve a dispute sounds like a good idea, but generally leads to infantile banter like the example above. (the pwnz j00 one)

4. If you are PvPing to get even, that is perfectly valid. however, revenge is a double sided sword, one that is a neverending cycle of revenge till one of the players decides to stop.

5. PvPing just to upset a char is generally reserved to Okies. Even though it is technically legal, that doesn't mean you should do it. For example.....>Smoking...legal, doesn't mean you should smoke.

6. MOST IMPORTANTLY.....don't use the forum or the /s command in abusive ways to solve the problem. I tried it and the people aren't buying. Instead, use shout maybe 2-3 times max, explain your upset from dying to PvP, and see if someone will help.

There ya'll go..this is simple PvP. Everyone can understand this, its not rules, but an explanation of what to do fi you get PKed, and also the reason why PvP must be in NS :D

i have a better solution.

7. Take your friends where you died and together PK that [censored]. Then you can all shout "OOHH I pwned j00 newb! don't come back here or else I'll make you my b**** again!"

But before you can do this, make some friends!

i agree somethings DO get out of hand and sometimes i take it personaly

for instance

the other day i was in NC faction territory, im an LA and a generaly good guy, i wont attack someone who cant fight back, well that use to be the case now its all out on anyone who is hostile (except impossibles) :D im not stupid

the reason for this

when i was in NC faction territory the other day i came accross 2 effortless people, my summons went to attack em after i examined them i unsummoned him.

I told them that because they are effortless i wont kill them
they thanked me and complimented me on my morals

i then asked for directions to the city which they gave and i left them be
yesterday one of those same chars i came accross again in NC territory, now whether it was the same char or a higher lvl i dont know but i remembered the name and greeted them, so did the person i was with

Then that person whos life i spared the day previously started attacking my friend, for no good reason, i said to him hey i spared ur life yesterday and now you attack me and my friend?

all he said was that was yesterday

anyway he killed my friend , his friend just stood by and watched and didnt lift a finger to fight which i thought good of him
i got away

i came back ressed my friend but from that time on here is a message to all those who may show mercy to effortless people

show mercy and one day they may come back and bite you in the [censored] for it

my advice now which ill be following

kill em all and let the gods sort em out
effortless or not, this is a total show of disrepsect for my morals previously displayed, and a lack of honor in battle

if people wish to roleplay faction wars they should do it right,
if someone spares you life then your in debt to them and shouldnt attack them or their companions

thats my opinion anyway
so once again, the time for mercy is over, im not going to let this happen again!

Oh, yes, deep and fine tought, so 'cause you don't like someone's behavior you start to behave like them, really nice. Sad.

It seems to be very hit or miss PK wise. I am trying out a bunch of different builds and it seems that people like to target my low-levels sometimes, and other times they just leave me alone. I try to just avoid folks who want to kill my newb characters - not too hard if you think about it. What I don't like are the meta-gaming exploits that some people are employing - like clearing an area of PCs so that you can level your newb characters. The DMs have spoken out against that, so I hope it is enough of a deterent, though some people are pretty brazen about it.

The "friend" who just watched was me. And I'd like to bring up a few points.

1. I only play one character and I dont believe I have ever met you before, at least I dont remember you sparing my life. Then again I dont remember a lot of people.

2. That was the first time I met him. He was just kindly showing me the way to avendell since the ferry man was dead. He seemed like a nice enough guy.

3. What exactly did you want me to do, attack him we were in the same faction. And I didnt know him well enough to tell him what he shoud do and not do. At least I didnt attack you too.

4. I thought you knew each other, he seemed like a nice guy and I though it was all in good fun.

5. There were two of you and you didn't exactly rate as effortless or easy to me(one was challenging, the other was moderate). I honestly thought you would have won.

6. I avoid PvP like the plague. I wasn't about to poke my nose into someone else fight.

7. And finally, for what little its worth, I'm sorry.

It seems that in most games with pvp people seem to find a way to make it unejoyable. In Shadowbane it was politics, isntead of simple wars. Everyone wanted to win and do the best instead of just duking things out.
I think a similar "attempted cure" could be applied to ns4. It's not a big deal if you die. You don't lose a single thing but travelling time, and if you lost that, maybe you should bind to a nearby portal if possible, or accept that as the cost of travel. I mean, yeah, it's annoying when you die and lose your chance at xp, but it happens, trying to stop with weird rules won't help. You'll just be griefed through other methods, like kill stealing and monster buffing.
So what i'm saying take everything in stride, remember it's a game, and make the best out of things.

And getting attacked and wtfpwned by higher lvls doesn't have to be the same thing over and over... You can always add something to it. Rp with the person, joke around with them, play hide and seek(funny and fun), stuff like that. It's possible, and makes the experience for both people better.

My key is don't try and take things very personally. However, there are some that take things way too far. That is the uncool part. That is the key to PvP. Stop being personal and also don't be extremely mean to others if you PK them. Again, joke around, its a game, don't be serious. Also this isn't a post about complaining over your PK experiences to incite arguments of fairness or anything like that. This is a "how should we deal with PvP" post. You've heard my laid back arguments, so please, keep things in good spirits. No more posts about how you and a bud were being killed and you called the person a b****. Its not cool. Instead explain how you solved the problem, or more importantly how others should deal with PvP.

well...

You guys all know ~ Axon right?

He started a new character and he gets PKed about 10 times in a two hour period. He doesn't cry, doesn't complain... He knows he did it to others ;-)

Just a real life example of revenge hehe...

hehehe thats what I say. If you kill someone, don't complain when you get killed back...axon is like that...so are okies. If you are going to PvP own up to it and all its ramifications... :D
