ok there seems to be 2 problems here as far as i can tell.
The 1st one is people using a variety of weapons - there are only a select group that go to +7 for example , like the chanters rapier thing, and also the lumi smiter for example.
To solve this problem would require going through every wpn available in the game and giving it a +7 varient. However this leads to further problems the biggest one being whom or what is going to drop it ?? and as well as that the 2nd additional problem is why would you use a +7 scimitar over the +7 rapier when its quite clear the piercing wpn is the superior on this server.
Perhaps we may give the scimitar or hand axe or light flail +7 varient an adition property of somekind - nothing huge maybe a +1 save or a 1d2 damage of a hard to find resistance or something similar to encourage those whom would normally take the hammer or rapier to try the light flail or scimitar . Just some ideas.
The other thing is the + x problem and i agree there needs to be a line somwhere and thats it - i realise and see the point about the scaling system 3/5/9/13/16/20/25 etc but do we really want +8 wpns ??
My answer is for better or worse - YES! how are we to hit certain 75 - mid 80 ac builds ?? some of which , and no im not having a go at Pm's are also sneak and crit immune - not all SOME u can get a shifter monk druid kobold thing into the 80's as well
See the thing is wherever you decide to draw the + x line thing at you will create other problems along the way. It dosent seem to be too broken as it is so i cant see alot of reasons to change it really - anyways im no DM or dev and im sure you lads will do whats best as you have always done in the past so GOOD LUCK! hehehehe

The problem with not having some uber weapons is that you can get 5 -7 different buffs to your ac, while you only get a few to your ab even tho that one scales with lvl.... geting 75 ac on a build isent that hard, which maks ab buffs neded :p hitting an ac 86 toon is almost imposible even with the highest ab builds.....

Why would I want to count 12 hours twice? I’m perfectly capable of counting to 24, and while we’re at it, can someone go shoot named time zones. GMT+x is all we need!

Believe me I'd love to finish Metis' work to tweak and scale spells like Premonition, Stoneskin, GMW, Shield of Faith, Barkskin etc so that they have a similar usefulness at epic levels as they do pre-epic, but it's a big job so it can only really be done when we figure out what our final item properties will be so we can decide the final numbers for the spells.mgrjebbo wrote:as for gmw scaling i think that is the greatest thing i have ever heard.

I am strongly against scaling of spellcaster buffs without serious devotion, like purist guild membership.
As far as I have seen in pvp, Pure classes that currently lack bonuses like 40th cleric, 40th wizard, 40th sorcerer, 40th Bard, etc, greatly excel in both PvE and PvP. True, there are bonuses to be gained by not making them pure, but many spells that already scale such as Spell resistance, duration of Metis' modified spells, along with heals and harms, are the trade off one recieves by declining the benefits of multiclassing.
Messing with this extremely delicate balance may cause us to have more Pureclass 40th Fighters, barbarians, clerics, wizards etc then there are of multiclasses in any build or form, not to mention the extra headaches that may cause developers. I've always felt that building is a complex work of art that takes many months to master, but if players start realizing the Pure 40th fighter is far superior to say, the Fighter/Wm, imo as it is these days, the result is a great decrease in the challenge of interesting builds and a vast increase in the simple ones, as everyone rushes to make their next Pure Class© with Fries & a Coke.
In my opinion, pure class benefits should be used with extreme caution, and even then only go to the most unused classes, with the most innate bioware cripples.

just out of curiosity, back in the beginning of NS4, wasn't the cap on magic items supposed to be +3 and nothing higher? i thought the idea of NS4 was to steer away from the gear based builds and over powered items that were so prevelant in NS3.

IMHO it's still mostly about the build. I remember my level 30 minmaxed IKD Dragonshape mostly still in level 16 gear stomping on (literally...) other level 30s with way better stuff. Similarly you can tell in seconds the difference in performance between a mage with well chosen feats and foci and one without, even with a major gear difference.
Definitely still about the build...
Some classes are easier to screw up than others... usually the more exotic builds are more difficult to make, while your classic ftr/rogue/wm, pure wiz, and ftr/cleric/something builds are pretty straightforward.

Re: Weapons of Mass Destruction?
Old post I know, but just had a thought about it.
The problem with going to items that are say +10 is that it does manipulate balance. A monk forgoes using a shield... but the 9 AC a shield provides can be overcome fairly easily with wisdom, and the 15 AC you get from +6 full plate with dex. 19 AC from armor and 13 AC from a tower shield is a completely different matter altogether. Dexers with 13 AC from tower shields would be hitting crazy AC if items went up to +10, AB is harder to get than AC IMHO.
