XP Trade-in Mechanism

Post by havelot »

Here is my first suggestion for NS4: implement some kind of mechanism for players to trade in XPs to be used towards leveling other toons. I have seen different implementations of this on other servers, always though as some penalty (like a 1/4 or 1/2 exchange rate). A good rationale for implementing this on NS4 is that it would engender more experimentation with builds, since few people want to spend a lot of time developing toons that, after a month or so, turn out not to be viable. Leveling slows almost to a crawl when leveling toons with an ECL of 3 and a level above 35. What think ye?

Exploitable. Just use the test server.

Exploitable.
Well, I always build out toons on "paper" (via a character creation module or the truly suberb CBC spreadsheet) before creating them on a server. But, as any sports fan will tell you, what's on paper doesn't necessarily win the day. So I challenge you to substantiate your single-worded claim since I have not see this mechanism exploited on other servers. Just how is it "exploitable"?

Scripted metagaming? not ever gonna see that on ns4.

Also, prior planning and offline testing of builds really helps - my own builds turn out perfectly as planned at level 40, with exactly enough skill points to max out all the skills I need, and perfect feat progression (I use the CBC spreadsheet from nwvault, and have my own NS4 Dojo that has a leveler, mob-dispenser, and some chests with all the most useful lvl20-30 gear available on ns4). I may open it to the Brethren and HNs, or even to the public one day... but it's pretty multi-user UNfriendly, and patched together haphazardly....

@Celorn - do you mean the Neversummer test server that's in the PW action group, with a max of 6 players?

GRRRRRR did you intentionally extend your bloody text all across to the right .... there should be a 101 for starting threads

1 word : NO

if you think your build will be faulty . run it in an offline MOD....that way you wont have to scrap a build and 'waste' xp.....this is quite rediculous.

I think the notice that "Although metagaming is frowned upon, it is not illegal. However, nothing will be done to encourage it." will be the one quoted here.

However, would DD be willing/able to host a leveling/test mini-server that incorporates all of the NS4 rules and modifications? Maybe limit to 5-10 players at a time?

There are more things in heaven in earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy, Horatio. One thing seems abundantly clear: you are not a programmer. Gee, it is such a shame that the developers of NS4 haven't the ability to code around such trivial problems. I wonder how they successfully coded a variable XP distribution function. Must have been pure luck.

FYI, on one of the servers I used to play, they in fact had a scripted formula for trading in XPs dependent upon your build and level. So, do you have any serious and less childish objections to the idea I'm proposing?

Oh, and by the way, I'm guessing your silly response is blowing out the layout of the page.

This test server is an NS3.5 server provided by The Chosen, one of our oldest guilds. As it has the NS3.5 monsters and uber gear, it would not be suitable monster gearwise, but otherwise could be used.

This may work of other servers, but it would never be 'fair' here. Or moreso everyone would have level 40s running around.

lol have a cookie for being a programmer havolot, programming isnt one of mine interests at this time, ;)

and trust me that it will not be implemented, and if it were to be id find the exploits on it as your idea is one of the crappiest idea to have come across the server right next to potatoes and jelly and crusty pizza.

if you are new to the server, then go build your best build, then revamp it to the server , then redo it again. like most of us OGs have...

you can even name em noob V1.0, noob V1.1, and so forth and so on like lework used to do.

this server has fallen down the nerf tree and hit almost all the branches down then zing and his henchmen have beaten it arround with whiffle ball bats then injected some hormones arround and about to balance biowares crappy excuse of DnD and made it and making it as balanced as it is now, so the cookie cutter muffins in the nwvault dont even work here for the most part...

make and rebuild, then repeat... learn from your noobness...
