Aasimar Light countering Tiefling/Drow Darkness

Post by Gildren »

This might belong in the bug section, but to be honest I'm not sure. The Aasimar "Light Aura" seems to have some issues, discussed below. In addition, I would like to make a suggestion of a possible change.

Bug?

At the moment, if I am seeing things correctly, the token that an Aasimar character receives at creation casts a sorc's light spell, providing illumination & some sort of ill effect to drow. The spell lasts a number of rounds based on level I believe, or at least until you zone and then appears to go away (at lest there is no aura circle after crossing maps). It also seems that the illumination is not consistent. The aura circle appears, but it's still quite dark inside with it occasionally getting brighter for one fight, but not another. Maybe it's supposed to work this way? Or maybe it's something that Bioware did?
I have been told though by other players I've been grouped with, mainly drow, that my Aasimar's aura causes them to get a "negative effects" icon. Though I and the other players are not sure exactly what it does to them? There also seems to be some sort of reveal effect of invis/hidden toons, but that might be just someone getting close enough for spot, donno.

Anywho... suggestion;

Why not make the "Light Aura" of the Aasimar race cancel out the "Darkness Aura" of drow/tieflings returning the area to its normal lighting condition? (and the reverse of course).
Right now as an Aasimar player (with UV up) if I come close to a drow with darkness up, I am totally blinded, hear the "rest" noise (sans the "zzzz's"), automatically lose all targets and can't even <tab> to find a target and try to miss it (hehe - a little joke at myself). This happens again upon leaving the darkness area. Not to mention the player can't see either (boy am I jealous of that ability lol).
Didn’t Light cancel Darkness and vise versa in pnp? Is this something we can look at?

(drow players - please don't flip out with "that will destroy me character")
(dev's - I'm sorry if this opens a can of worms)

Not sure of all the effects, but one of the effects of the Aasimar light is to reduce the hide in shadows skill. NOt sure if it reduces that skill if you have no points in it.
If anyone tests this or they already know, can they please post?

I actually have tested this and it is a penalty to Hide that you are seeing as a skill penalty. Which is probably why things are being revealed to you as well. However Tiefling Darkness still wins out over the light of the Aasimar.

Thanks for the clarification as to what the Light Aura affects does, very helpful.

Can we continue a discussion regarding the idea of "Light Aura" and (effectively) "Dark Aura" nullifying each other?

Restoratation will remove the blindness effect, and probably Remove Blindness/Deafness as well, however, as soon as the player enters the darkness effect again, the blindness returns. It's more than just a little annoying, especially if you're playing an aasimar partied with a tiefling/drow who insists on using the darkness after you've repeatedly told the player NOT to do so. The end result is that the aasimar becomes totally useless to the entire party as a whole.

That's when you leave the party and administer capital punishment to the offender.

kinda of hard to kill someone that is impossible to target due to the above mentioned situation.

Aasimar killing people in their sleep, now there's a sight you don't see everyday.

It's easier to pk when they don't have any buffs up and they can't cast more.

And I always relish the opportunity to whack sleeping mobs as well.

Kinda missing the point I think, heh. Is this idea even possible considering the limitations of the game programing? Is this idea worth considering?
