Never gonna happen

Post by lordvan52681 »

OK, I had some ideas that I thought were good, but will never see the light of day because they are either impossible with the NWN toolset, or just too hard for our overworked devs; but I wanted to put em out there anyway just in case 8)

Invisible helms; c'mon! you cant tell me everyone doesnt have at least 1 character who would look better without a helm, but just cant give up those helmet bonuses (especially wizards)

Character Donation; If we could donate characters to our faction, It would even out the city defense. Of course once you donated the character, you would never get to play it again, as it's now an NPC. Imagine how much tougher it would be to attack a city that has J'ain or Shimi permanently posted at the gates or guarding Job bosses.

Anyone have any other ideas that will never happen?

Not to say it will happen, your right on that part. But it is entirely possible to convert PC's into NPC's or NPC's into PC's. As was pointed out elsewhere though, if you truly want to see how bad your character can truly be, turn it over to an game AI.

Thnx for replying Flailer. I wasn't sure if it could be done or not, but whatever the limitations, if it can be done then it should be done. Now don't get me wrong, there should be limitations.

To quote Double D:

"Factions are a stepping stone for higher lvl areas. They willnot be the hardest areas in the game, because to do this would make them un attackable - which if we did that we might as well make them invlun and pull the guards.

The guards are there as an aid to faction players to defend themselves. No as a wall of unstoppable force."

With this in mind, if you limited the donations like noone over 30, only 1 PC>NPC per area, only guilds can donate, etc., etc. then it would even out the defenses in the cities without making them too hard to invade.

But I know how busy you guys are, so im not asking to have this in tomorrow; just make it #194,657 on the list of stuff to do 8)

Umm... yeah, J'ain is NOT really a good build, I was eager to rebuild my original monk/sd from way back when NS4 originally opened to the public. (One thing is the nasty 20% XP penalty, not ever taking the prefered class, and taking 20 monk first, not to mention a couple of feats that proved to be fairly useless).

As for making her into an NPC? That'd never work, because the only way I can actually do well with her, is to play very carefully - knowing when to run, when to hide, when to palm or stun, and when and how to strike (with the right pair of gloves), etc..

Anyhow, I think PCs are doing a decent job at defending so far, although defending against endless wave of multiple PC attacks the other night took a lot of time away from leveling my new toon!

Perhaps donations COULD effect the guards in some way, say giving them weapon or armour upgrades? I've done this myself with a cleric, buffing guards to +5 weapons and jacking their AC up by a bit and making them immune to death, but for that you have to sit there and babysit them.

What about a system where you donate to upgrade the guards, and it lasts until the next reset -- (giving another good reason to implement an automatic, scheduled server reset every 8 or 12 hours) -- It wouldn't make them UBER, but just slightly increase their DR, AC and AB...

i play on another server that lets the town guilds pay game money to upgrade the basics of the town gaurds...ie. true seeing, increase ab, ac, DR, elemental defense, elemental damage, skills, feats. the increases are to the basic model so all the gaurds get the same bonuses. the monetary amount is steep though, 10-20mil for simple upgrades and only the guild can do it.
