Damage Immunity, no resistance
Damage Immunity, no resistance
There is a problem in NS4 that was a problem in NS3 that excludes several fun builds for dedicated classes, roleplayers, and powergamers alike. This problem is that dexterity builds cannot do damage in combat.
A dex build counts on doing many low damage attacks as opposed to few high damage attacks, however with damage resistance a dex build doing 8 attacks per round at low damage doesn't even make a scratch while a warrior with two attacks weilding a [censored] sword or greatsword or scythe or anything does massive damage.
I propose that damage resistance be left completely out of the game, save for the built in epic feats and class bonuses. This way, the warriors still do massive damage and the dex fighters and pick away at the bigger guys and still have a chance. A dex fighter can't even damage a spellcaster with the right clothes on as things are.
Let me know what you all think...

mehhh i used to think like you, but then i realized something:
The game shouldn't be modded just for one build AND
Dex fighters get dex ac while the str fighters get damage, if you want to do more damage as a dex fighter go rogue, or get divine might, or some other way than physical damage, as simple as that, you lose damage for ac

well, if it's high enough you could also get a lvl of monk for more ac.
umm for damage, they can get divine might, divine favor, a weap with something other than phys damage, a spell that gives non-phys damage, CoT divine wrath, sneak attack, etc. etc.

Rogue also gets you some sneak attack damage. Don't forget that you can only have resists to two type of damage at a time at best. Those going shieldless can only have one type. All three physical types have finessable weapons (kukri, mace, short sword being examples).

Only problem I have with immunity and resistance is the order in which they are calculated.
Resist should be claculated before Immunity. Same with Reduction.
Should go Reduction, Resist, Immunity.
Immunity first is too powerful.
Of course no sense in trying to get this to work, bioware isn't changing anything.

Granted Bio implemented resists in a stupid way, but why should pure dex be able to do as much damage as a well-rounded character in general? Plunk down for 13 str instead of 6 or 8 and try out power attack

I would have suggested trying out a finese fighter/wizard and use the assorted weapon enchantments that a wizard gets but that build has been crippled by the recent "1 enchantment per object" rule.
Dexterity based characters are pretty much limited to sneak attack classes or monk now. Try monk/rogue taking the classes up evenly, throw in a level of shadowdancer to get around "cheap" versions of detect hidden and you should be away.

My bard is doing very well with a high dex and low strengt. The way I have been able to overcome all the damage resist/immunities and such is by using a weapon with a long crit range and taking improved crit as well.
My rapier bought in Avendell has served my bard well and slain many giants and NC/LA guards in his life. The undead on the other hand is harder with their crit immune
A dex char is not supposed to run around with a big heavy weapon anyway and most of the smaller weapons have long crit ranges. It becomes a problem when your opponents AC is high and your crits become rare, taunt is a lifesaver is situations like that

The issue isn't doing more damage... I don't think that a dex build should do more damage. I think that they should be able to do more than zero damage. I would be happy with 1-5 damage per hit even, but against these resistances a dex build can't damage at all. The argument about PCs having two resistances max is good, however what about a monk that is virtually useless unless he is unarmed or with a kama?
