The best balor events, imo, were Baphomets (?) where he'd make balors with DC 60 implode, so it'd be a hectic scramble.
So true. I loved those balor events, where you'd have waves of high DC implosion and then also those bats (or whatever) who would spam 2 hellballs each. It was literally just waves of hellballs and implosions, with low damage firewalls and firestorms everywhere. You'd get tons of XP, but it would be very chaotic with people dying all over, etc.
Shamed is funny, but he's correct, as Daral can attest.
Witness. Without going into too much detail, let me just say "running in large circles in Celestia to avoid getting mowed down" is not a good idea, and yet it appears to be the absolute first thought for nearly everyone who visits Celestia the first couple times around. Myself included, really. It just takes experience and someone like Shamed to helpfully and cheerfully point out all of your mistakes, in a verbose manner. :)

As for XP events, they are nice when you are in them but very discouraging when you aren't. Just last night I logged in right after an XP event ended, and I pretty much decided not to bother leveling my toons as a result. Now I'll just PvP and wait for the next XP event.

Indeed, weasels instead get run over by highway vehicles. Speaking of which, is anybody hungry for some weaselburger?

Event Series Idea

Post by rodgrodgrodg »

I posted a more detailed idea for scheduled team PvP in the Event and Task Ideas thread.

Basically there'd be DM facilitated team PvP matches every Saturday, at a different level each week. Everyone could spend a week leveling multiple toons together to reach the same level (or trying to pk each other with toons in the same range if they preferred). Then on Saturday we'd battle each other for fun and prizes.

Feel free to comment on or help improve the idea if you'd like to see it happen:

I like the idea. Prizes are always nice for incentive, and the DMs always seem to add their own special je ne c'est quoi. We could also get a couple groups as you described and meet in the arena, maybe get someone to bring a clc for reses. Kind of like Fight Club. Having something scheduled might help, although a schedule seems to guaratee I can't make it.

I haven't been in a server pull for a while - those are always fun. Some folks are annoyed when they get pulled from what they're doing (understandably, sometimes, certainly), but I've had the most fun with the unannounced ones.

Unannounced pulls are dretrimental to new players.. they have no idea whats happening, are on a new toon with no chance, and they ussually dont have much gold so are prone to losing a piece of gear that while insignificant, means a lot to then cuase its all they have.

Announced pulls are fun
Twig (TSS) - Twig [CLAD] - Twigs -Fury- - SyNfully Rotted Twig - Twig'lee -Down Under- - Twig'zilla

Fergus Glonshire [FoN] - Sakij Lovac [FoN] - Zatharus Rivermoon (TSS) - Bumble (TSS) - Body built for SyN

OK, so how we get this to happen?

I haven't heard from any DMs on this thread, but it seems like there's interest from each faction.

We could start the scheduled leveling on our own as early as next week, but probably need the DMs to facilitate the PvP battles once per week.

I don't see how server pulls would cause newbie's to lose gear or gold unless they got pulled into faction areas?

It looked to me like the recent quick lvling DM events were due to the 1 month rollback we had. In my case they more than made up for the lost month. I didn't expect them and don't expect to see them so frequently anymore. In any case I'd like to thank all the DM's for their efforts, they are very much appreciated!

I think that was the main intent. While I'm appreciative of the effort they made, I think it was very misguided. Some people who hadn't been on the server at all during the missing month got new toons to level 40 almost overnight. Others, like myself, who'd lost about 100 character levels across about 15 toons, 8-10 books, loads of epic gear, all my Master Artisan craftsmen, my only 40, my "reward" for reporting the death without xp loss exploit, etc... got nothing. Of course it was the accomplishments and stuff more than the levels that were missed most. Worse yet, the events have changed leveling on the server and made it harder to find parties. Many players didn't want to work for their levels when the next "event" would get them 5-10 levels without much thought or effort.

Some of the hardest hit players just left and didn't come back. I was demoralized, and didn't play much for a couple weeks, but slowly got back into the swing of things by trying to help newbies learn the server and level (still don't care about my own toons like I did before, but I do like to party and play this game).

This thread is about trying to get DM support back for parties and leveling in a way that will make the server more fun for everyone.... So how do we get some DMs on board with weekly scheduled leveling and PvP?

I've been through 3 ns4 Vault wipes . A one month roll back was more like a bee sting compared to a guilotine. Chin up Rodgrod

Vault wipes normally have a reason, that makes you go "Ok, yeah, w/e." Random loss of progress is more like "whut happened"
