Aasimar light ability thingy
can this be made more useful? maybe damaging undead or evil creatures who enter it?
maybe for undead it'll be 1 damage per lvl/2 per round?
and maybe for evil it'll be1 damage per lvl/4 (or maybe /10) per round?
and maybe if ur being extra generous it damages neutral but even less than for evil and they stack with each other, so if ur evil undead the two stack
also, if the aasimar has his light thingy up is he still blinded by drow and tiefling magical darkness? it would be nice if the aasimar's light ability acts as a sort of ultra vision in those circumstances that drow or tiefling have their darkness up. Maybe having the two eliminate each other, but if one is up before the other then they get blinded as usual? just some thoughts

Or maybe leave Aasimar ability as it is because it works just fine?

By working just fine you mean completely useless unless you need a nightlight?Daltian wrote:Or maybe leave Aasimar ability as it is because it works just fine?

It provides -40 hide in aura and negates darkness affects on the Aasimar.Twiggy wrote:By working just fine you mean completely useless unless you need a nightlight?Daltian wrote:Or maybe leave Aasimar ability as it is because it works just fine?

Re: Aasimar light ability thingy
Aasimar is actually a really good race because of this and its lack of stat penalties. THis is a great ability which shouldn't be changed at all.

Re: Aasimar light ability thingy
Thank you Daltian for that completely erroneous post. I know perfectly well what it does. It's a friggen nightlight. just because it does what it's supposed to do doesn't mean you can't make it better. all it does is make it hard for sneakers to sneak inside the light when you have it on. almost completely useless if ur not designed to be a spotter. Seeing as Paladin is the main class for aasimar and the paladin is a fighting class i think the aura should have offensive properties. not asking for much, the drow darkness is a lot more helpful in comparison. Idk if it adds to your hide or ms silently but to me it seems it should.
as a Paladin who uses offensive capabilites and which spot is not a class skill, i don't have the points to put into spot. a dedicated sneaker wouldn't be phased by this at all.....+40 to spot for someone who can't afford to put points into spot is useless.....hence the damage for evil and undead....since PC's aren't classified as undead this would not hurt insofar as pvp. it would merely help for pvm, and 4 or 10 damage a round for evil toons is a pittance.
Btw Mining when you say negates dark effects on the aasimar are you talking about the tiefling and drow abilities as well as the darkness spell? or just darkness spells, because the description for both aasimar ability as well as drow/tiefling is confusing.
Shamed i know the aasimar is a really good race. i'm trying to make it better
Hell why not give Blackgauads the same thing but affecting good players?

Re: Aasimar light ability thingy
it isn't +40 spot, it is -40 hide, so it helps your allies too. The aura is fine as-is.

Re: Aasimar light ability thingy
It is not a "friggen nightlight" as you call it, its light aura which works during the day too. I don't see where it says Aasimar needs to be a paladin, its just a favored class, nothing more. And even if it was a paladin, I don't think you would need any help at damaging undead, paladins are very good at it without that aura anyway. Also, the fact that you don't have points to put in spot is not as difficult to fix as you think. When you make your character, rise its intelligence score by 2 and you'll have enough points.Twiggy wrote:Thank you Daltian for that completely erroneous post. I know perfectly well what it does. Re: Aasimar light ability thingy
ok bub, a night light is an oversimplification yes but that is what it is doing, lighting up an area. I never said the aasimar needs to be a paladin, i was stating that it was it's favored class. "Main class" is the same thing as "favored" your either not quick enough to get the comparison or just being nitpicky and deciding to look around the fact just because you don't like the idea.
Second part just because as a paladin you don't need help damaging the dead, doesn't mean more won't be helpful. it's called building on a class. when you make a statement like "if it was a paladin.....are very good at it without the aura..." ur pretty much saying "hey don't add anything that will further help a class, but instead make it do what every other class does already" or "don't improve a class at all." Paladins kill evil and undead, it's what they do, hence the damage to them. and Aasimar's in the rply sense are celestials exactly opposite of evil and undead. it makes sense that an aura would damage them.
Third if i had more points to dump into intelligence I would! i plan my toons for specific purposes. I understand I won't have any spot, that's not what concerns me. What concerns me is the fact that the nightlight only helps people if they are spotters. which is very specific, and not useful. especially since elven rangers/clerics are far better spotters. it add's a semi useful thing that doesn't build on it's favored class's abilities.
Tiefling's favored class is Assassin, the cloud makes sense. Drow are magic users who love the darkness, the cloud makes sense. Aasimar are celestial evil killers, giving them some bright light that adds to spot doesn't make sense. Maybe if it blinded EVERYONE who went into the light it would make a little more sense.
Fourth, don't get me wrong i don't think that the idea was useless, i'm just using strong words. the device was a good idea to begin with, i am just thinking of ways to make it better. (this is directed at any dm's or dev's who think i'm being unappreciative, I'm not. Just trying to make a good idea better
)
Also giving the aasimar with the favored class of paladin a Very bright light, is like giving the tiefling with favored class of assassin animal empathy.

+40 spot and -40 to hide is essentially the same thing, although i do get what you are saying. the sneaker is still loosing his ability to hide as well.
also a -40 to hide would hinder your allies if you had any sneakers in your party.
also this is maybe good as a pvp counter measure to sneakers. Pve it is only helpful maybe in plane of shadows. it has no real offensive capabilities.
Also as i stated before in pvp you would be hindering your own allies who were sneakers.
and to top it off the ability doesn't actually help YOU as the player at all, instead it hinders others abilities to do their job efficiently.
It is NOT fine as is. or let me rephrase that, if left as is it will not hurt anything but if changed it will be made better.

Re: Aasimar light ability thingy
I've got an idea, i know it may sound crazy but i'm gonna through it out there anyway...
We have one... 1 Dev. Now while we all understand your a player from back in the day, and have alot of ideas concerning the server. Today is NOT back in the day when the server may have had 3-5 Devs workin on their own time. Today is Today, and we have 1 "full-time" dev and 1 "Part-Time" dev...
Just something to take into account.
*sigh*

Re: Aasimar light ability thingy

Make my drow aura do damage to all good and neutral creatures and make it +40 hide. Also make blackguard PRC equal in power to paladins. And give me hipsing assassins and give NC their rogues. Also give SL or MA a way to DC48 AQ3 implode with discipline and spot. And give my barb 85% DI... from all physical and non-physical damage.
These are all suggestions that are 'improvements'. It's all about balance.
(your critical topic lacked a grasp of this concept as well)
I might also add that you think that -40 hide is a useless ability for this race. If you did the math, assuming a 'decent' multiclass hider with 105 hide would be rendered to 65 hide: 21 cross class + 4 wis + 7 helm + 20 true sight + 10 c/c = 62 spot. That means that a cross class spotter, with a helm and 2 buffs can spot 80% of spotters. Now try the other direction: 43 + 2 feat + 3 feat +10 feat + 4 wis + 30 true sight + 20 c/c (div focused) = 112 spot... with only 4 wisdom! Add another 9 or 11 for a wis based toon and you get 121-123. Vs. the best hider at ~127 who then loses 40 and is left at 87. Let me lolololol more.
In reality, the aura causes -10 hide for a bright light source within its' radius only. The same is true for darkness aura... +10 hide.
