Dwarven Waraxe
Dwarven Waraxe
Any way of adding Dwarven Waraxes to all dwarves for free? Considering Elves get Rapier/Longsword/Longbow free. Would be nice to see them used more often. Wasn't NwN2 changed to add it too? (doesnt play it enough to remember)

Yeah this is something i always assumed was broken because it just makes so much sense.

True, and it makes sense. But is it possible without giving the dwarfs the exotic feat? I'd hope so... At least monks get some exotic feats too without opening them to the whole range.--Ashe-- wrote:Any way of adding Dwarven Waraxes to all dwarves for free? Yeah the exotic feat would be too much, just the dwarven waraxe.

Not without giving the exotic feat and some script hackery...

Re: Dwarven Waraxe
So...Custom Item...Code it as a simple weapon, race restriction of Dwaf, same waraxe stats and somehow jack up the UMD modifier to prevent that from bieng used to cheat into a dwarven waraxe.
Sounds simple.
that is, to someone who has no idea how the game is coded, programmed or anything.

Re: Dwarven Waraxe
I don't understand what the deal is with having a dwavern waraxe.
On any PC, any race or class.. my weapons of choice has always been a shield, dagger, sling with ammunition. All very affordable, plus it leaves me with some gold left to by a few healing kits.
Being just a little careful, by the time I'm lvl 3, having collected anything that drops and selling it, I am fully equipped with 1d4 weapon of choice, proper armor etc... All without spawning due to death.
So what any race gets on creation is negligible. What Elfs get just gives them the ability to afford a few more healing kits than I could buy, allows them to be a little more reckless at lvl 1. I do know that long before lvl 5 they too have upgraded.

Re: Dwarven Waraxe
When elves get rapiers, longsword, longbows for free, this allows them the advantage of saving a feat from martial weapon selection. Elven dexers get rapier (largest finessable), elven bards get access to longsword/rapier/longbow (again, without having to waste a feat on martial), elven archers/arcane archers get longbow. The deal is that these weapons are racially identified with elves and cost no extra feat to obtain and greatly boost any build steps from having to waste a feat to get them.
Dwarven waraxes are specifically racially identified with dwarves. They would mesh well with the con/str based builds that dwarves tend to rely upon. Having to invest in Exotic feat to get a weapon that is specifically identified with that race is a waste.
I merely brought this suggestion up as a means to open up more usage of a lesser used weapon, especially to a faction/race that has a lot of hurdles to begin with. Seems a shame to me to see exotic weapons lying about in creation that get little use, but if the code makes it problematic, its understandable.

Just so you know, its not happening... if its even possible, it would be such a hack that I can't allow it.

Re: Dwarven Waraxe
Maybe i am misunderstanding. Gear that you get at 1st level and what you do from 1 to 5 lvl has nothing to do with this topic. For it to be called a hack i must really be misunderstanding.
I thought what we were talking about here was allowing dwarves to use a dwarven waraxe without having to take exotic weapons feat.
I am still in the learning proccess of scripting and creating and all that but it seems to me i could make a weapon with this profile and make it impossible to umd in a matter of minutes.
Ofcourse that is just using the standard toolset.....

Yea, im not sure how this went three different directions either. ive played many PnP dwarves, and you bet your [censored] they all used waraxes. from the PnP PoV ( and yes, i realize NS isnt pnp) the main reason for dwarves to use a dwarven waraxe, is it was wieldable 1h with no penalty, wich meant AC in one hand, and 1d12 dmg in the other, whereas other medium sized humanoids not only had to take a exotic feat, but also monkey grip, depending on your DM's ruling of monkey grip, or a non-sanctioned feat.
Not wielding Dwarven waraxes, or dwarven Ur'goshes, for that matter, hits any long-time dwarf player dwarf right in the trousers.
For those not understanding, pick up any Players Handbook for the last 3 editions. this is cornerstone Dwarven Class feature, just like Elven racial weapons. Is it build min-maxing? yea, at its finest. But thats what always made dwarves the most fun tanks to play ( my opinion, obviously). Wielding 1d12 in yer right hand, and a tower shield twice your height in the other, with the option to drop the shield, and wield that bad boy 2h the next round for the str bonus to dmg.
That, and dwarves can tumble in full plate in 3.0 ruleset. but thats another discussion.
Again, this has nothing to do with level 1-5, or money, or hacking. its all about a long, time honored dwarven racial bonus. damn near the cornerstone of playing the race for many players.

Re: Dwarven Waraxe
to grant a dwarf the use of dwarve waraxes would require that we hack dwarves..thats where the hack comes in.
making a waraxe only useable by dwarves doesn't mean they can use it..just means they are the only ones tha can.

Re: Dwarven Waraxe
Cant they put Usable by Dwarfs in the weapons description(I know it has to be coded too but you get the picture)? That it qualifies the weapon so in addition to exotic feat, dwarves use it too.
I put the IO in socIOpath!

Re: Dwarven Waraxe
even if you put "useable by dwarves" it means they still need to qualify for the base requirements for the weapon too...unless we hack the item and give to them free...and we don't hack

Re: Dwarven Waraxe
Sounds like best we let dead dogs lie, unless someone devices a non-hacked solution. While an inventory item that gives bonus feat exotic would work, that would severely overpower dwarves, and is totally not an acceptable solution.
So....how about we just make handaxes have a bonus d12 damage on em?
my dexer would have a field day with that
