Very wierd problem when i try and log in

hey all, can anyone point me in the right direction to fix this problem plz?

tried to log in today and all the screen the writing is unreadable and i get lime green bits o wack shapes all over my screen - cant see anything clearly except the hand pointer thing even if i hit return and it logs in and moves to the char select screen same thing occurs.

Was playing a fair bit yesterday and had no probs, any help would be much appreciated

ok my system is an AMD athlon xp1600+ 1.4ghz 512mb ram running windows XP

my Graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce2MX 100/200 64mb

I went to Nvidia site and i have the latest drivers available for the card, funny thing i dont get is that i have changed nothing on the system at all - not 1 setting and it even happens on the offline version of the game. Dont know what went wrong in the 8hrs i was asleep. Ah well ill keep trying to find out whats happening

Hm, are you having problem with Neversummer only or with Neverwinter Nights in general?
Have you tried cleaning your startup through "msconfig"? Sometimes you cluster your system with unneeded stuff.
I assume your setting is already stripped to the bone with that graphic card... But still, start nwconfig and put it on lowest and a small resolution too. Now, that I think about it, maybe the game wants to create a resolution which doesn't fit in your screen? Good luck anyways, maybe another person can really help you, I'm just fishing in magical darkness here heh.

ok not sure whats going on but i took my graphics card out put it back in and all was good - played on and off all day again. Woke up this morning and yep my graphics are all stuffed again.

Anyone got any ideas why this would happen - its a bit annoying to have to open my box and pull my card out everyday to play

and to answer Nyelini its only affecting NS4 and neverwinter nights off line i can see everything else i try to do perfect. Changing my cards settings or the other stuff you suggested had no results either, but thanks for the reply.

Try playing other games and see if it happens there too.
If you start getting graphical anomalies in the other games as well, I would guess it is overheating.

Give your case a vacuum and check all your fans.
Case fans, cpu fans, psu fans, and vidcard fans. (Does a GF2MX even have fans? lol )

My suggestion would be to get a new vidcard. Running a AMD 1600+ with a GF2 MX? There's a HUGE disparity in hardware power there. I would suggest an upper GF 5XXX or lower 6XXX series vid card for that cpu.

Try lowering graphical settings in NWN as well.

Same thing was happening to my ATI HD2900 XT, turned out to be the card was overheating and eventually became unusable in any game -- at first it was only after a few hours, but it got progressively worse to the point of crashing immediately entering 3D mode.

I had it RMA'd back to Sapphire and they sent me a brand new card that works fine...

As for your specific card, I've got an old computer with the same card in it, and I actually added my own GPU fan to it (actually was a CPU fan from an older computer) to keep it from overheating. If it's not drivers, then I'd confirm it to be a hardware issue, overheating gpu or less likely video memory.

I get strange flashes on my screen when in any game with intense Fx from time to time. The cause is due to the Fx card chip over heating because of a dirty or worn out fan.

Try cleaning the fan on your Fx card and cpu, if that doesn't work you may need to replace it.

thanks for these replies guys - there is no fan on my card. Celorn was it easy to fit that old cpu fan to your card? i would like to try that - i think thats my problem.

Yep looks very similar to that, i get two or three triangles depending on the screen and all the graphics are squeezed into them rest of the screen is black
