levelling alternatives
levelling alternatives
so to avoid the inevitable burnout grind i'm trying to level a new toon off the beaten track. no efreets, giants, amazons, dwarves, etc.
ive gotten to level 16 so far, and have managed to find several good alternative to giant mountain. however i'm kind of at a loss for where to go now. icy crypt is kind of standard and i'd like to avoid that too (and few people want to party for icy anyway).
any suggestions for freet, giant, zon, dorf replacements?
a requirement is a good challenge for decent reward, basically anything that doesn't feel "grindy." it doesnt have to be uber xp.

if you can handle the mobs, Menzoduran is an excellent place to level. as a mage i liked to round them up and kill em with delayed blast fireball and stuff, great xp.
that will get you to lvl 20 relatively quickly.
there is also sunken isle for around the same level...
from 20-30, there isnt really anything else besides FD and Zons.

gnolls is no good after 14 or 15, the payment for grinding that at 24 would be less than worth it. ash mountain probley is the only alterantive to FD IMO. maybe there should be another?
*gets out area design stuff and crosses fingers*
... a less uber umber holk kingdom *cough*
*titans*....*storm giants*....*an uber orc clan*......*an evil non-playable faction that is out to hunt everyone down, but for some reason never leaves its city*....ect.
loads of ideas...

Level 16- Kill Faction Mobs they're decent xp and good drops (just be careful what faction u decide to raid
)
Mezzoliths are always good
replacements for Zons? I'm not aware of anything besides lowlvl planar creatures with that CR. Zons are always good I find Usually blows those 20something lvls away in a blink of an eye

so far sunken is working out pretty well as when i can get a crew together (and park a rezbot nearby). it would help if there was a direct ferry to sunken from frostdale, that way you dont have to blow 20k gold on every trip/rez. its a nice change.
factions i will creep around but for health reasons its not a great levelling tactic during busy times
i'm not sure what to do next though. one person suggested air/fire/earth but that would only work at that level with a big party. I'll see if i can peel anyone away from frost giants.

the problem with putting a party together for "non dwarf" planar areas is the fact that most meleers put a lot of feats/gear into critical hits and sneak attacks (beyond the fact that crits/sneaks make your job seem easier, depending on relative mob hit points). so they want to make the most use of their build.
so unless you hook up with a party of casters, looks like zondorfs is it post 25ish.

It is strange that what I consider to be the best melee helm is a level 16 helm. You would think there would be an all around better helm than the highlords. There may be a better one but I have yet to see it.Binkyuk wrote:Personally I consider Sunken a required stop in my levelling to gear myself up. Some(/most) of the best pre-planar gear is there.
Though I suppose you could just substitute 'Sunken' with 'Guild Mules' in that sentence for the same result.
