Is rest supposed to save your char?

I read somewhere to save, or 'rest to save' your char often. If this is supposed to work, it has a glitch. I just rested about 4 min before getting dropped from server, but when I logged back in over an hours worth of play was gone- including xp, gold, and items. This hour included resting 3 times, so either the database is glitching, or resting does not save...

You should have a book in your inventory. Put this book on a quickslot and use it, you may have to click yourself after.
This will save your character.

As for the save when resting? It did in NS3, not too sure about NS4 though.

I tried that... I found I have to walk back and forth for a couple of
minutes.

Then I get the message 'your character has been saved'.

I'll try clicking on my book next time I'm online.
