Curious As To Rationale
This is really a question for the developers: why is the Barbarian race excluded from the Mystral Ascendancy faction? I notice Monks are excluded as well; is it to disallow any speed increase?

I think originally the Devs were trying to cut down on any cheese builds with certain Prestige classes. On other servers you can find many Monk Palemasters running around and I know from playing on other servers that when you add DR to a Palemaster the result of no crits with lots of DR is somewhat abusive as well.

And that would make them very good candidates for NC, where they aren't allowed either.Alkapwn wrote:Lorkar Hit the Nail on the Head.Lorkar1 wrote:From an RP perspective Barbarians are hateful and fearful of anything arcane. Which would explain their exclusion from MA.
I just think the devs tried to make factions unique. Although sometimes a class got restricted due to cheesiness, like the Paladin in AO.
Besides a fighter gets damage reduction in epic lvls too, the 4 dr the Barbarian gets beforehand can't be that decisive.
Being an MA player, I would love to have Barbarians in MA... however I totally understand the balance issue on that. That said... I still think MA should have Rangers
Vengeful grudges against creatures, vampiric regeneration... I'd love to see MA Rangers running around the plains and through the trees near Garagoth. Its silly that RK has Rangers and MA doesn't.

Out of all of the AD&D material I have read it seems that whenever I come across anything about barbarians relating to magic there was always a distrust.
The following was taken from a site that dealt with barbarians in the D&D world.
"Barbarians fear and oppose all magic except the simplest of clerical magics (ministrations of the gods). They cannot use magic items of any sort at low levels, and will always gain experience points for destroying any magic item. They will not knowingly work with magic-users at low levels, and at even the highest levels will view such wizards with suspicion even if well known to them."

Ohh.. bad idea now that Blade Thirst gives Vamp Regen. Even though Palemasters aren't known for having a great AB, giving them any form of extra regen is probably a bad idea. Let them stick to using Potions to keep from dying not free regen.LinuxPup wrote:Being an MA player, I would love to have Barbarians in MA... however I totally understand the balance issue on that. Yeah i dont think there is anything wrong at all with MA's class choices.
Most of the requests for other classes seem somewhat unbalancing. Palemasters is one the toughest pvp builds around To mix in some of the best PRC's wouldn't help the game much i think. Who would want to raid a city full of Speedy Crit immune high AB toons? Not I? I think it would really take the fun out of it.
My suggestion is if ya want to make a toon thats not offered in MA go to another faction.

if you want a pale master with regen... there's a lot better ways than blade thirst and they're already allowed. it can't be because of that.MLoki wrote: Ohh.. bad idea now that Blade Thirst gives Vamp Regen. its probably to limit cheese builds, and to give people a reason to try other factions (if you can build it all in ma why go anywhere else?).
the main issue i have with factions is that on reflections at least there seem to be too many factions given the active playerbase. 7 factions across... 10-12 concurrent users == lots and lots of dead factions (and thus dead build possibilities).
it would be more interesting if relic bonuses/guild halls could span allied factions. so you still get the munchkin-governing effect of factions but you can branch out into allied factions without having to give up all your guild/friends/etc built up over time in your "home" faction.
theoretically you could have toons in just about any factions but it seems not many folks do more than 1 or 2.
Well there ya go, barbarians are anti-magic and brutal ignoramus' that don't appreciate wizards - there's your rationale for not having them in MA.
Meanwhile the main issue I have with factions is that there's such a huge number of pigs in the world, and yet there's relatively little bacon in the BLT sandwiches in the world - hence all of the pigs in the world that aren't currently in BLTs are pointless.
Oh wait, that's a non-sequitir that didn't make sense...
