Level-Restricted Items

Post by Mortiana27 »

Hey all. I'm not sure if I'm in the right place to mention this, but I had a problem the other night, while playing. I ended up losing 9,000 gp because of something that I thought shouldn't have happened.

Typically, I'm not a "board-reading" type of Neversummer regular. I just like to log in and play, so if this is something that everyone but me knows about then disregard.

Incident: I found a chunk of loot that brought my total of gp up over 16,000. Delighted, I went to the merchant and bought a 15,000 piece of armor. It was +3 AC Bonus with some other spiffy stuffs. When examining the item, I did not see anything regarding level restriction. It didn't show up Red when I moused over it. So, I bought it for 15,000 gp. When I tried to put it on, I got the message that it was only wearable by level 9! I was very disappointed, and since I'm only level 4, there was no point in packing it around for 5 more levels. I sold it, and only got 6,000 gp back in the deal.

I had no idea that there was level restriction on items, but that's not my complaint so much as it's to ask that if an item is only useable after a certain level, that the examined item indicate this in its description.

It's not a huge issue, but I figured that if, by chance, it's a bug that someone should know.

It would help. If you try to equip it unequips itself and tells in system chat what lvl you need to be. But having it in the description would be faster.

Putting the level restrictions in the item description would indeed make it faster, but there are two large problems with this: 1) There are a BUNCH of items out there, and modifying the descriptions would take up time that would be better spent on practically any of the other 107 new bugs. 2) Due to the wonderful system the devs have set up item level restrictions can be changed with ease, and almost certainly will be tweaked to improve balance. Item descriptions are not set up in this way, and so it would be extremely hard to keep them up to date.

The power of the new store system is so that you can try new gear on to see how it fits with your build; try giving it a shot before you buy something new.

I have found a way to tell level restictions before you buy an item. While looking at an item, pull it down into your items box. Then try to put it on. If it is level restricted you should not be able to wear it. You can still buy the item even if you leave it on. Of course this means you could steal it too...

Actually, even if you are wearing an item it will be removed from your inventory when you leave the store if it has not been purchased.
