Wisdom books

I had a problem with a +2 wisdom book some time ago. I followed directions surver wasn't full it did just what I expected, cut reload etc lost 5000 xp but wisdom was unchanged. Never did change on relog etc.

Later I found a +4 book (actually Jean let me find it) and used it the same way as recommended, it raised my wisdom score by +2. So it behaved as if the +2 book had worked, took 20000 xp as expected. In both of these cases I could not get a response from a DM that day or even after on the subject, probably just poor timing I was doing this during off times so server would not be busy.

The only thing I can come up with is it thought the +2 for my wisdom on his sub race was already the +2 for the book, aasimar. Does this sound possible? No one else seems to have had any problem like this as far as I have heard.


I haven't managed to talk online to a DM yet but DD told me to post here, and see if someone could fix it. The character to no ones surprise is Vastly Confused, the aptly named.

it sounds like you got your +4, you got the +2 from the first book and the +2 from the second. they don't stack on top of each other they just add to a combined total...so +2 and a +4= a +4

Actually DD1 from what he is saying he never got the first +2 so he actually only ended up with a +2 from the +4 book. +0 +2 = 2 The other +2 he is refering to is from his race so it's actually +2 + (0 +2) = 4 but it should be 6 or green jello. I'm not sure anymore either.

I never had an issue with books and having a subrace. I got a +2 CHA book and it worked as planned, and my character is an aasimar as well.

I've lost 2 +2 INT books now, each on different toons -- and guess what: BOTH subraces have -2 INT on them! Sounds like LETO is cancelling out the -2 of the subrace so +2 to a -2 stat goes nowhere, so i would expect that a +4 to a -2 stat would only increase it +2...

Could a dm/dev please confirm this? I'd be willing to test this out on my own toons in question if you wish to watch (before & after), etc...

Sounds like LETO is cancelling out the -2 of the subrace so +2 to a -2 stat goes nowhere, so i would expect that a +4 to a -2 stat would only increase it +2...

Just to clarify, it looks like subraces (and only subraces) who have stat decrements different from that of their base race get no effect from a +2 book for such stats, and only a +2 when using a +4 book.

So it should occur with the following subraces on the stats listed:
Githzerai: Str, Int
Githyanki: Wis, Int, Chr
Tiefling: Chr
Air Gen: Chr
Earth Gen: Dex, Chr
Fire Gen: Con, Wis
Water Gen: Dex, Int
Wild Elf: Int, Chr
Wood Elf: Int, Chr (but not Con because it is same as elf)
Duergar: Chr
Gold Dwarf: Dex
Strongheart: Wisdom
Ghostwise: Wisdom
Kender: Wis, Chr (but not Str)
Deep Gnome: Chr (but not Str)
Half-Ogre: Dex, Wis (but not Int and Chr)

Maybe its the other way around, and that Leto already applied a +2 from the sub-race so it only adds another +2. Just a thought.

Try using a +4 dex book and only getting 1 point added

i concur ! i auctaully bugged auril just before i used one earlier today , and through his powers, the book worked properly

Now I'm glad I didn't use my +2 WIS book on my half-ogre monk yet.
