Dm channel and Prayer?

Post by Saurus33 »

 This may sound stupid, but I'm new to multiplayer, so I have an excuse. How do you actually pray/talk in the DM channel?

just type /dm before you speak, just like you would /s for shout or /p for party talk :p

Incase you're asking on the approach you should take, and not the how you actually do it, I'll give you some pointers on how to get in touch with a DM/Diety in game.

The DM's as a whole like to encourage roleplaying, but only when related to non technical issues. If you have an actual game issue needing attending to (Quest Item stick in inventory, player stuck in ground, exp loss on pvp kill, ect..), just present your problem in the /dm channel, and if a DM is on, we'll attend to such a matter as quick as possible.

When trying to contact a DM, always please use the /DM channel. Please do not use Shout, it clutters up Shout and will be ignored by most DM's. Don't simply ask: "Is a DM is on?", only DeputyDog will get an answer to that question for obvious reasons. Instead, straight out tell us your problem and we'll attempt to resolve it as best we can. If no one responds, do not worry, chances are a DM is not on at the time.

If trying to contact a DM for non technical reasons in order to receive some sort of ingame blessing (Ranging from quests to buffs to to smitings to ressurections and everything inbetween), the DM squad reacts really well when players roleplay their requests. The more you "Ham it up" so to speak, the more likely we are to respond.

Examples of what will and won't get a DM response:

Bad:
Favor request:
1. Hey I died, rez me!
2. I died and don't want to break the area, rez me! (Implying they will log out instead of taking a measly 10% respawn penalty. Chances are we won't take well to knowingly breaking a populated area simply because you are too cheap to take the respawn penalty.)
3. Give me lootz!
Technical Request:
3. Is a DM on??????

Good:
Favor requests:
1. Oh "Random Diety", I have died fighting "Good/Evil/Neutral", please take this "blank"as an offering and please restore me to life (and/or I will go smite "Good/Evil/Neutral at "x" location) .
2. "Random Deity", your people are in need, we offer you this "blank" in exchange for your help.
3. Oh "Random Deity", the forces of "Good/Neutral/Evil" are strong, what can I do to stop them?
Technical requests:
4. My "Random Quest item" is stuck in my inventory, please remove it for me.
5. I am stuck at "blank" location, please bump me to safety.

Yes, I'm a DM, but your build still sucks.

Or if no response you can do a quick ask on the shout becuase said deities may be in mortal form and not be able to hear the dm channel, but can still summon their divine self to come to your aid.

If a DM (the person) is joined in as a player, they're a player just like everyone else.

If you're logged in as a DM, you're a DM and not able to play. Well, except mess with the players. Capice?

its a different login for DM's and players. i have 2 shortcuts on my desktop depending on how i want to login. you basically choose from the begining and then if you want to switch you have to log out of NWN most times.
if i didn't do it...someone else would have.

dms are players when you see level 40s running around in loops lol. jk

yeh but there are dms who pose as players... and players who pose as dms

just go on shout with a polite tone; being demanding or whining won't get you anywhere :D

Related question: what if your character prays to a god that isn't represented by a DM like Waukeen? Do the DM's have like a set of avatars to choose from so they can be different gods/goddesses if the prayed to deity isn't on?

A couple of us have made avatars for deities we don't normally play for quests, but that's about the only time you'll catch one of us on with our non-standard one. But if a prayer is well-crafted, I for one have answered all sorts of worshippers... a good prayer to Waukeen will get you much better results than a badly done one to Lolth, for example.

i've done some awesome ones to Lolth, however being a true follower and leader in SL i know 9/10 times Lolth doesn't care if your lying there dead. which is why almost always i respawn no matter what, unless there is someone close that will raise. i rarely pray to be brought back from death by DM's

Yes, and I have personnally seen Lolth send a priestess to laugh at a fallen drow who had erringly prayed for help after falling in battle because she was too weak.
