direct connect to server --problem

Direct connecting to server :

Now that i am no longer on my miserable college network, i wanted to be able to direct connect to the server to bypass the stupidity of Gamespy.... BUT i get a message

"could not connect to master server some mplayer games may not be available"

I followed the instructions under the documentation posts my TGPO... and i was able to sucsessfully load a login screen, but when i hit login for my user name, i get the above message.... Any ideas ? thx.

It means Gamespy sucks.

I sometimes get the message, but usually I can connect to NS4 anyway so I ignore it. And Gamespy sucks anyway.

replace ns4 with ns1 and it will work fine. ns4 is a throw back to when we had 4 seperate servers with the module broken up across them.

Edit: it didn't work, i'm still getting the same message. :(

thx !....


Now another concern -- and maybe the direct connect will fix it -- i have two computers running ns4 and at times i swich accounts from cpu to cpu becuase my laptop sucks and if im doing somthing difficult i want to be able to have a crisp image.....

with that said -- twice in the past two days -- i have done this "rotation" and have one of the toons taht i logged off still there on the server , hence causing a duplication... tonight my "ghost" character that was not really logged in was intertwined with someone elses Tell's and this person was also able to read our party chat through my character which di not belong..

whew i hope that made some sence..

anyways, i hope that the direct connect eliminates this from happening , so i can log in and out fast w/o having to wait for the server / GAMESPY to catch up..... if not , i will be sure to wait a minute so that the NS server can clear my logout-- the last thing i want to happen is for myself or someone elses toon get corrupetd.

another item -- this evening ( morning) when i logged this duplicated toon back on -- twice he was suddenly disconnected... and i know it was not my internet taking a dump ...

Flavious had two monks on the player list at the same time, I suspect he had long since logged out on coming close to him i "became" him and could look through his player sheet (incomplete) and inventory, i could cast spells my character had quicksloted but only as if I was Flavious, I could not rest because I am of a different faction to flavious and hence no longer liked myself.

I logged out and back in, no fix

I logged a new charactor.. works ok.... until i step on the same map as the Flavious bug.

Common issue. Both your computers are probably still using the default client port. Go into your nwnplayer.ini and look for Clientport, the default setting is 5200. On one or both machines change this number so that they are not the same. 5200 and 5201 for example will work just fine for you.

haha..didn't like yourself anymore. should have attacked ns just because it was so unbearable to be unlikeable.

aye, most times its client port that messes up multiple cpu's in a network running a game.
if i didn't do it...someone else would have.
