XP penalty for Multiclassed
XP penalty for Multiclassed
OK can i get some clarification on how the xp penalty for multi class works on here please?
If you have 2 classes that are more than 1 level apart from each other you take a 20% xp penalty, for 3 classes its 40%. If one of your classes is a favored class (nwn favored NOT neversummer) then that class does not count in this calculation.
So for a creature that gives 100xp and the following builds:
Elf Rogue 30/Fighter 5/SD 1 - 40% pen = 60xp
Human Cleric 22/Monk 4/Rogue 3 - 0 Pen = 100xp (Cleric favored)
Halfling Rouge 14/Monk 14/SD 2 - 20% Pen = 80xp
So for a creature that gives 100xp and the following builds:
Elf Rogue 30/Fighter 5/SD 1 - 40% pen = 60xp
Human Cleric 22/Monk 4/Rogue 3 - 0 Pen = 100xp (Cleric favored)
Halfling Rouge 14/Monk 14/SD 2 - 20% Pen = 80xp
So a Drow is not truely favoured class Cleric then and the combination of
Cleric 20/ fighter 5/ Wizard 5 = 20% but (+10% for each Cleric Level)
Wizard 20/ Fighter 5/ Cleric 5 = 0% (+10% for each Cleric Level)
Meaning ECL classes that have favoured class other than the standard class are taking a 20% hit on XP earned and a 10% bonus on the levels which are "favoured".
So roughly 50% (?) XP from ECL
Then 100% if pure wizard or carefully matched levels of non wizard classes
or 80% if multiclass once non Wizard
or 60% from Multiclassing Twice Non Wizard or once Wizard
Then 110% for those levels that are Cleric
So Cleric (high) / Monk (low) /BG (low) = 0.5 * 0.6 = 30% XP
that actualy seems closer to what I'm getting than other idea's I have seen passed about, it explains completely the reason for the Slow Slow progress.
Thank You

Luckily not. No xp penalties for PrC's.Red-Mane wrote:I believe PrC's are included in penalties as of 1.66, I saw it in a change log somewhere
Supposedly, no xp penalties are supposed to apply in NS4 at all, though many have been reporting that they are getting them. Additionally, some have been reporting that subrace favored classes aren't working properly.

old topic I know, but i just got around to testing this.
Sunrace favored classes are NOT working. I leveled a wood elf to ranger 3/monk 1 and he is receiving 12 xp per rat, wheras my pure lvl 4 druid gets 16.
I need to test this against a wizard multiclass build to see if it gets a penalty, but after seeing it get one for ranger, im pretty sure it wont.

I doubt everyone untill I can see some proof
but seriously, before it looked like you were only theorizing, and I didnt see anyone name a single race other than drow. so i tested your theory with a nondrow race and found it to be true.
When I first came here and was told the multiclass penalties were eliminated and replaced with bonuses for choosing favored class, i was very happy. this seems more realistic to me because while some races may be better at certain classes, it shouldnt preclude them from learning others.
