Weird xp loss on Death

Weird xp loss on Death
Earlier today i was killed by someone's animal companion, but received no xp loss. Later, after being repeatedly dominated and energy drained, i was wailed and killed, and did receive an xp loss. Does anyone know if something has been changed? I'm a regular vanilla moon elf btw, no subrace or any of that crap.
