cannot connect to server, timed out

Hey guys, I was a long time player of NS4. I installed the GOG version tonight.

When I first got it installed I tried direct connecting to the server. It would connect and show me all my old characters, but when I selected one and attempted to "play", I was "booted".

So I figured it was a CD key issue, and changed the new GOG version's CD key to my old one. Now when I attempt to direct connect, it finds the server, but the connection times out.

I just find it weird that simply swapping out CD keys could effect this, but it's the only thing that changed.

You need to patch, GoG client version is iffy. You lose an exploit, but way fewer mysterious crashes. Request a real cdkey on GoG (it's in the issues list) while you're there (the generic one is banned for that reason), can always give to a friend.

I ended up just downloading an .iso file to update and throw my old CD key into, instead of trying to do it through GOG.....I mean Hell, I've bought the game 3 times over the past decade, so I don't feel bad not paying for this iteration

Did all the updates (CD keys, latest patches, direct connect) and still getting Cannot connect to server, timed out.

Can you ping the server? ping ns4.nsrealm.com

If you get cannot translate address or something along that line try ping 198.199.73.163

UDP packet handling in your router, modem or ISP could be a problem too.
