Buuut apparently HotU dosnt want to install on my machine. Installed and updated nwn and SoU just fine. But Hordes is being an [censored] and keeps freezing the installation (and my whole damn pc) up at this part : C:neverwinternights/nwn/data/xp2_sounds_bif
Running vista home ultimate 64 bit, and core nwn has been fully updated to 1.69
Any ideas?

Maybe update to 1.69 after installing through through HotU?

run it as admin? oh yeah...and vista crashes nwn on startup if you have any interruptions during. which means you have to turn off your user account control, that thing that pops up and asks "do you want to do this?" "are you sure" "if i do this, i get a cookie"...."i'm sorry, something happened and it crashed" " do you want to do this again?" "are you sure?"

and right click the launch icon and then choose run as administrator instead of turning off admin stuff. it does work.
Re: Well i WAS going to come back and see about playing again..
Bioware's own support page says that i have to have 1.68 or later if i want to try and run Nwn1 on vista, so that part i cant get around. What im not understanding is why SoU installed just fine, but HotU wont. Ive already tried having NWN run under admin. / compatibility with windows xp when i try to install HoTu, nothing is working. And no replies on my topic at the support forum either.

Ah well. Guess ill have to wait for NS5 to come out before i can come back and play again.

Ok I dont understand. You dont need to run it on vista before its all installed right? So cant you just install all the way through Hotu then update with patches? Cant you just download the critical rebuild after everything is installed and update with that?
I know very little about Vista other than it was an evil plan devised by apple to raise the suicide count in PC users.

I can see why so many folks trashed their Windows Vista and went back to XP.
Don't worry though Microsoft has Windows 7 coming out soon and you'll be able to play with a whole new mess of problems that they don't know how to fix.

Re: Well i WAS going to come back and see about playing again..
I just took an IST (Information Systems Technology) class last semester at KU, wherein we had a guest speaker from microsoft. The guy was pretty down to earth and laughed at Vista himself (he said that "the program manager who authorized Vistas release is now cleaning parking lots somewhere") and all that jazz. . . while I know hes paid to be that way he also gave a demo of Windows 7 beta (Im sure available for download somewhere). Windows 7 as far as I saw was MUCH MUCH more impressive than Vista ever was (only reason I run a vista machine is cuz of built in tablet features, and I couldnt get a different OS when I bought my tablet). Microsoft seems to have gone WAY out of the way to make sure the big annoyances (pop-up requests) are out of the way, infact they are stuck on the system tray and if you dont goto it, it lets you do (far as I saw) whatever you want with your machine. Or maybe it was tell it once that "this is ok, leave me alone" and then its accessible from the tray if you change your mind. So atleast microsoft is moving somewhere ';) Again I know this guy is paid to play Windows 7 up, but it did seem LEAPS AND BOUNDS better than Vista (mind you not hard to do).
As far as installing goes. . . I run a vista tablet and had NO problems installing NWN then updating (had to critical rebuild so just start there wolfy). So I would say install and then move up from there with version numbers. Maybe try running installers (manually from disc (right click disc in explorer and click explore)) as administrator or under win xp compatibility.

I am on vista 64 home premium. Had issues installing Diamond edition also and ended up having to do something like the critical rebuild... Do as suggested and install NWN then SoU then HotU before playing, updating any of them. Do not update until all 3 are installed.

I know you all are trying to be helpfull, and i appreciate it.
But HotU is NOT.. i repeat.. NOT going thru with installation, no matter if ive updated NwN core and SoU or not. It freezes up about halfway thru the sound files install, and if i try to force it to quit before it quits on its own (or i eject the cd) my whole pc freezes up and i need a reboot.

Hi Wolfarus,
I would try copying the contents of the Hordes CD to the hard drive
Run Defrag so you have a contiguous block
Turn off all background services where possible especially AntiVirus and others such as software Firewalls, Spyware Scanners etc.
Then run the setup.exe
Stangely the file which you are having problems with is not easily visible on the cd. I went into the Shared_Files.zip and opened the "data" folder where it listed the following .BIF files:
xp2.bif
xp2_models.bif
xp2_scripts.bif
xp2_templates.bif
xp2_textures.bif
xp2_tiles.bif
but there was no xp2_sounds.bif
If you could find the BIF file causing problems by searching manually for it and then remove it and obtain a copy of it from a good installation put it in the "copied CD" folder on the hard drive as a replacement, it may work when you run setup - you could try installing without it but it may fall over if there are dependencies.
