CD Key Issues

Got a problem I was hoping could be resolved/answered...

A few years ago I gave my HotU key to a former friend so that he could play the expansion and he has been using it frequently online, obviously I don't want you to adjudicate between me and him, I simply intend to buy a new HotU key in order to play online without conflict but I was told that Neversummer would not allow me to access characters I have already created from a new key, so a couple of questions really:

Firstly, is it true my characters would be unplayable from a new key even though I'd be logging on the same account?

Secondly, if the above is true would it be possible to get my characters switched to the new key or are they effectively dead to me if/when i change?

To play your prior toons.. you will need to log them into game via your original cd key and then disable the security by typing in /disablesecurity
you will then be able to log those toons with your new cd key.

I believe Linux does most of the CD-Key stuff. You should be able to PM him and get your toons switched to your new CD-Key, that way you dont have to allow access to anyone who figures out your password (or break through the defenseless gamespy login).

Brilliant, will do this as soon as I have purchased the new keys unless it turns out I can re-apply the security myself and save him the trouble.

Hello Y'all,

Im a relative newbie to NS4, albeit I have developed several toons under my 'gandlin_meralf' account many moons ago, when I did play here quite regularly for several weeks.
Since then, I confess to having not been online for quite a long time, for various RL reasons, including problems with my laptop etc...
Only a couple of weeks ago did I attempt to relog onto the neversummer site and found my toons intact, however whenever I press play to logon I am Immediatly booted and cannot access this account.
I know the reason for this is something to do with my cd key, let me explain...
I originally purchased a mac version of the game many many years ago and have an account with bioware, where I have recorded my cd key. However since then I have also purchased a pc version, which is now loaded onto my sparkly new laptop. It was the pc version which I originally used to play at NS4 and as such it is this cd key which relates to my toons.
Unfortunatly the sticker inside one of the cd boxes of my pc version has been torn and as such I was struggling to install the game on my laptop, fortunatly by accessing my bioware account I was able to install the game using the older recorded cd key, however, now I am unable to play the original toons I have here at NS4.
Is it possible to override this problem and allow me to continue playing with my old toons, or do I have to create a new account and start all over again?

Hate investigating stuff like this...but since I have enough cdkey sets to field 2 rugby teams by now...

Look at nwncdkey.ini (it's wherever your executables for nwn are) with your favorite text document editor. It'll have:

Key1=x1x2x-3x4x5-x6x7x-8xxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
Key2=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
Key3=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
(more stuff for premium content if you have that)

We need to know whatever characters are in the first key position denoted with a number (public key part) and which accounts you play for messing with this kind of stuff.
