Hi all,
Tonight I found out that the Duergar's innate immunity to paralysis did not work (i was stuck - rooted to the spot) vs Vine Mine's entangle flavor as opposed to the slow one (didnt try that). This is strange considering other party members had FoM up and were fine which basically gives you the duergar's immunity to paralysis ability. Am I missing something? Is this a bug with the duergar race?
Would appreciate feedback from fellow duergars or a dm/dev with information re this situation.
Many thanks.
Vine Mine and Duergar
Re: Vine Mine and Duergar
When "Entangled" you aren't "Paralyzed" just rooted to the spot. It's a different immunity that FoM has that works against entangle. Duargar immunity to Paralysis only works against things that actually Paralyze. Duargar immunity also won't work against stun, daze or confusion. Yet all of these will make you stand there as if you were paralyzed.

Re: Vine Mine and Duergar
Thanks MLoki,
Pre-wipe I recalled my duergar was immune to stonehold - i'll need to find a druid to test this out but, has the new stonehold changed the way it works with respect to the paralyzing aspect or has only the duration changed to an instant effect as opposed to an AoE.
Thanks

Its still the same i think, or it should be, the paralyze imun for PM stops stonehold.
Re: Vine Mine and Duergar
Effectively stun and paralysis have the same effect of disallowing a player to move or control themselves... they just stand flat-footed and take hits. Stun is generally considered more powerful since there are few ways of obtaining immunity to it.
Entangle disallows you to walk, but you can still attack... however you're always flat-footed while entangled.
Daze allows you to walk slowly, but not attack... you can use basic items like potions.
Confusion on NPCs follows standard monster AI, but for PCs it follows a basic heartbeat script of disallowing a player to control their character, but instead walking around randomly. However, there's also a deliciously evil custom confusion (Umber Hulk for example) that causes a player to leave their party and attack their allies... its things like that that make NS4 development so rewarding...
Sometimes you players are too friendly to enemy factions and a little PvP "motivation" needs to take place.
Domination isn't really used on PCs anymore... its buggy. Animal Empathy however can make an animal dominated, in which standard monster AI is used, only the animal is friendly to the PC who dominates it. I believe Control Undead uses this still...
Fear and Turned effects disallow player control and run off the same heartbeat script which makes the player run away from whatever they're afraid of. We generally don't use Turned except for one area I think.
Also when it says Duergar are immune to "illusions"... that translates to Phantasmal Killer and Weird spells.

Re: Vine Mine and Duergar
As a general rule, try to note the obvious differneces from just he words (no offense inteded).
Paralyzation means you are helpless, YOU CANT MOVE ANYTHING.
Entangled means that you are held fast, in one spot . . . there is something impeding your movement.
With things that that in mind D&D is really pretty good at being straight forward . . . you just have to think like that.
