Alright, this should be a fairly simple problem to solve but for some reason i am still having troubles. Vista and neverwinter nights.............. Somebody tell me what to do using plain english and small simple words, my brain already hurts.

This is what Tep had to say about running NWN 1.69 in Vista...

I've been using Vista and 1.69 for about 6 months now, and Tep's right on the money. Don't waste your time with that menu program, just run nwmain.exe.

Thanx guys/gals, I'll try that today and see if i can get it to work. We cant even update to 1.69 yet, it keeps telling me to run the critical rebuild, when i do this it tells me the files are corrupted and boots me. Haven't had much time to spend with it yet, gonna get my sledge hammer out and see if i can fix it

Ill hate to link up to nwmain ';) Ive just been letting it run the menu and then after authorizing it (EVERY F&$^%ing time i run it) click like mad to pass the movies so it doesnt crash

I had to switch the NWN.exe to compatability mode to get it to run on my vista64. but can you tell us more about what your running? Video card, Sound card, and the like?

Korr, go to control panel > users accounts

There should be an option for 'Turn user account control on or off'

Turning it off with stop the 'confirm/deny' BS.

I have win Vista Ultimate and nwn runs fine even with shortcuts

For updateing run as admin, do the updates

after the updates are done run normal, its gonna say it doesnt detect the ver type, dont worry bout that
just hit OK and continue

Hit play then continue and go on with life NWN will run fine

thats if you want to use the menu box and shortcuts

I had to remove the user account control on my gf's machine when I installed NWN and it was giving a windows 'confirm/deny' popup every time she ran it. At the time, i think the solution was posted as a suggestion in a NWN2 forum but I tried it anyway... A little bit of searching and I found this:

Odd.. I also have been running it with no problems under Vista - mind you before the optional compatability updates and SP1 were installed, NWN would last about 10 seconds then crash.

Also, not sure if it makes a diff but I have a shortcut to nwmain.exe, which i right-clicked and put both [x] Run this program in compat... for XP (Sp2) as well as [x] Disable visual themes.

I have an ATI2900 and a SB Xfi Pcix soundcard, nwn gives me 100fps on average @full detail, oh that reminds me, i should turn shiny water back on and see if it doesn't crash anymore.

The only problem I DO have, i had in xp too.. i don't hear footsteps when audio is set to 'hardware', but DO hear them with 'software' using the 'Miles' one i believe.. I haven't really taken a close listen/look since 1.69 tho regarding sound, will have to double check that.
