Re: Warning about new NVIDIA cards
No fixes as yet, but one bit of good news:
"The performance issue with Neverwinter Nights on Geforce 400 series cards is not a hardware issue. We'll be releasing a WHQL driver release update very soon but this driver won't contain the fix. Hopefully it will be in the following driver."
So it can be done, it's just a matter of when.

Re: Warning about new NVIDIA cards
I had been trying to get my new nVidia card to work properly with NWN for a while now. I saw that a nV staff member was promising 'SOON' and 'Not this next driver will have the fix but the one after' ... finally I did some serious researching and found a work around that makes it work!
My FPS went up well over 4 times, and I am able to do FRAPS recording again.
This is the info I found that worked:
Hurray Neversummer 4.0 ENABLED! NOW I have to figure out why NWShader isn't working with my new vid card... I'm trying to get an answer from peachykeen on that.
My FPS went up well over 4 times, and I am able to do FRAPS recording again.
This is the info I found that worked:
Code: Select all
I believe I have a workaround.
1. Download Damian Trebilco's excellent GLIntercept from http://glintercept.nutty.org - this will wrap calls to OpenGL32.dll.
2. Copy OpenGL32.dll from the GLIntercept directory to the NWN directory.
3. Copy gliConfig_ExtOverride.ini to the NWN directory and rename it to gliConfig.ini.
4. Edit gliConfig.ini -- inside of the ExtensionOverride block at the bottom of the file, add the line:
RemoveExtensions = (GL_NV_vertex_array_range2, GL_NV_vertex_program);
If this is not clear, you can search for the commented line
// RemoveExtensions = (GL_S3_s3tc,WGL_EXT_swap_control);
and replace it with the one I have provided above. (I actually removed the // from the above line and all is well).
Removing these two extensions seems to have eliminated the problem for me. I haven't noticed any side effects as yet, but I suspect that NVIDIA's driver team could do a lot better than this hack. You can also go through and disable all of the logging functions, but I believe they are pretty minimal in that config template.

Latest news from a Nvidia rep: "The fix was recently checked in to the driver. This fix also addresses a few other titles."
To be released: "Middle to end of this month."
