NS wrecked my CD key

I've read the other posts about login issues. Mine is a little different. I was playing long fine with no problems since start of open beta. I was in AO lands (server 2?) and the game crashed. I tried multiple times to log back in with no luck. I made a new char thinking it was just my server. The new char(s) (i attempted to make many with no luck) had constant errors such as:

When choosing a subrace, instead of subrace options I got newbie store messages, like chain shirt 150 gp.

Once I make my char, click enter NS, and am supposed to view the rift cut scene, all i get is a black screen.

Made a char, got logged out of NS, but the rift cut scene was playing behind the server list screen. I could see it behind the login screen??? it was weird.

Now after all my attempts to login in, I used an old account to try. Got the cutscene behind my screen, and then relogged in and got the all black screen.

Now when I try and log in to any server, not just NS, i get messages saying my CD key is NOT VALID!!.

Please help me out with this!!! Keep in mind I know jack about computers, so a step by step help or something would be great.

Please help as right now it seems to me that NS bugged my whole game

1st- If you haven't already, REBOOT!

What you are describing sounds more like you have a hardware problem, like your HD is getting ready to fail. It might be possible for a few virus's to do similar damage, you need to virus check, if that comes back clean you may need to reinstall NWN. Check the cdkey.ini in your NWN directory and see if the numbers are still what you originally entered, I'd bet the file's been scrambled along with other things on your system.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was a ram problem too... But you would notice that in other programs too.

try a critical rebuild of 1.62 (you can get from bioware's site)

some of your files might be corrupted because of the crash. if that doesn't work, then ya gotta reinstall :/

Bioware site is offline. I think this couse a problems.

Sorry johnthebest1234- jumped the gun....

It appears this is a bioware problem, and you just got hit before most of us. Right now 90% of the cdkey are "invalid"
Bioware is down, and noone has a way to get offical information, but they did something or lost the validating capability somehow.. It should just be a matter of time before its all back to working.

looks like its a new bug. on shout on Server 1 (AO) it was stated that portaling to a different server would cause your cd key to read as invalid. I logged off and tried to get back ionto the sdame server i had just left and was told i had an invalid cd key. Same message whenh I tried to log into any server for any game, not just NS.

nah... its just that portalling rechecked the cdkey, this problem is affecting ALL nwn multiplayer games, not just NS4's or multi-server worlds. I think it just took a while for the bioware database to get wiped so some got hit earlier than others.. read the amount of players actually in any PW and you'll only see upto like 3 players in any of them..

This one has NOTHING to do with our great folks at NS, this is a bioware fubar

login problems for me too:
i got this message: Your cdkey is unauthorized.
it's a bioware problem. their servers are down so they cannot check if your cdkey is valid.

anyway this is pretty odd: usually Bioware post a message about site/server downtime on its site and on nwvault

the servers are what calls for the check. It is possible for NS4 to bypass the check, but since they probably use the cdkey for DB info it is probably too late to adopt. Since it is beyond anything a player has control of we'll just have to suffer the rare times bioware goes down.

Our DB info may be attached to our cd-keys, but why would bioware need to be in this loop?

for crippe13: gaming servers (like NS) do not check your cdkey: they only check if your cdkey is valid: Bioware validates your cdkey when you login with your username and password in NWN main menu. so if Bioware is down (like today) the cdkey is not valitated and servers won't accept you.
