Problems with Holy Sword

was leveling a pure paladin in zonz who are im told either CN or CE depending on the mob. well while there i noticed im only getting 20 divine damage on them from my divine might but nothing extra from my holy sword spell. after talking with a DM about this and finding out their alingment both of wich holy sword should effect i thought maybe it doesent stack with divine might so i tested this and didnt use divine might to wich i wasent getting any divine damage on the at all as if the spell wasent even cast.

my paladin was lvl 31 at the time using the darkblade i dont know if that makes a difference so if one of the dev team can look into this all of us pure paladins would appreciate it as we seem to have a top notch AB only spell at the moment.

Tested and I'm getting the same problem... very odd.

from another server i played in, pally bonuses seemed to always have the most problems...especially with holy sword properties. i dont know why but eventually they were routed out...sure this can be fixed too

after talking with ezwalker while he tested it we determined that its only being applyed to TN and Evil alingend creatures CN and LN are being ignored by the spell.

why would holy sword effect neutral at all? that completely goes against everything a paladin is.

honestly i can see your point however since it is the top paladin spell and did virtually nothing to most mobs i like the change and it makes it a viable spell again. and if you take in account that it is the highest weapon buff spell of any class it should have some effect/ability to reflect that. since everyone would raise hell about it dispelling on hit i see this a a good solution.

besides i think your motives are somewhat biased being from TC where your all neutral anyway :P

well i understand how you could feel that way however didnt they change it awhile back so that only NC could make palis?

even if they didnt i see that a dev rolled his eyes. however i have a very valid point here. Paladins are a sign of good and the reason holy sword is such a high level buff is because its granted by their god's to smite their worst enemy, which happens to be evil. i dont see in wizard of the coasts wildest dreams the god Torm standing up and saying "i now grant the the power to smite everything...except yourselfs ofcourse."

does this mean black guards can smite neuatral? beacuse if not why not. i come from a neutral faction but even i see the lopsided nature of this change. either everything should be smiteable or leave the target the way it was and change the spell some other way. you dont see my cleric complaing that greater magical weapon doesnt seem to help when cast on the white scythe.

time and place here. there is a time and a place. like frozen skeletons. everyone knows that is the richest place on the server and paladins happen to have the best buff to defeat them. holy sword is usefull just not in pvp vs a neutral aligned opponent. i dont see a problem with that.


or just give blackguards the same bonus and all is well.

LA still has paladins tyvm and honestly i dont see it as a serious unbalance to allow paladins to have 2d6 extra damage vs neutral i for one hope they dont change it because paladins deffinatly needed the boost.

Don't forget RK... only 3 factions get Paladins: NC, LA, and RK. If a foe is evil or neutral... they're still a foe. The most evil players I've seen tend to be neutral alignment. :lol:

its pure paladin bonus jean..not just a pally bonus. the bonus it gives towards neutrals is less than towards evil.

oh duh... lol didnt know it was a pure bonus.... thought it was just a change to the spell


i completely understand now. there isnt much to do for palis as is so i understand the change.

right..we had to give them a little towards neuters anyway...can't pick a real alignment ;)

it's too bad smite evil is hard coded.. cuz you could make a pure paly that could kill almost anyone on the server with 1 hit ;]
