I'd be going with one of the two +int subraces of course(most likely air gensai). This is obviously aimed towards a pure caster type. Any suggestions on feats to remove, reorder, or change, would be appreciated.+ Bonus Feat

Pure Wizard suggestions
I'm looking at making a pure wizard. As it's been a while since i've even played, and now on an entirely different server, I find it a bit harder to decide what I want to do. The fact that spell focus is actually useful here is killing me as well
So far i've got a basic plan of:

Ya ya ya I know... stop whining, complaining, and learn to build better.

The only major change I'd suggest is dropping Evocation foci in favour of Abjuration. Your #1 Evocation spell in the end-game is IGMS which doesn't benefit from foci. Meanwhile with 40 caster levels and ESF: Abj you'll find a valuable place in PvP raids as the guy that can mords anything from anyone.
Otherwise the final build looks good. I'd reorder some feats but otherwise solid stuff.
I'd definitely agree about taking MD summon. MD scales with caster level, so with 40 of them you'll get great bang for your buck. Also as a wiz you have slightly more options for buffing and healing an undead summon than a living one.
I'd definitely take the epic summon at 21 myself. By 21 the normal summons will be getting very tiresome with their short durations.
If you're in MA you'll want Spell Pen feats nice and early for Formians, but any other faction you can leave it until much later.
You've left Extend Spell until very late IMO. By 12ish you'll be finding yourself in parties quite a bit and being able to go twice as long before resting will make you much more popular. Also, many buffs (Flaming Weapon springs to mind) have their durations halved, so being able to Extend it to match the duration of your other buffs is very handy. Oh and it means you can mem twice as many Hastes, which is everyone's favourite spell.
While it may seem like a small increase for the spell slots, maximising the stat buffs you give others makes a huge difference in parties (much more than an extra damage spell), and as a wizzie you can have all of them available to you. Dexers and Tanks alike will love you, and you'll love them as they reap xp for you. So I'd take that feat at 12ish rather than 15.

Yup. I always go for GSF: Conj at level 1, with Shelgarn's and Magic Weapon. Then sit back and watch your level 1 dagger with 30HP and +5 AB eviscerate stuff for you.minielvis wrote:The only thing I would do different is get the greater sf conj asap for easier leveling with summons.

I went with evocation mostly for the fact that fireball goes up to 20d6, which on a level 3 spell is pretty nice. As a wizard I can't really spam IGMS quite so much so fireball is the next best choice. Thunderclap is always fun too
.
I've still got time to take evocation vs abjuration, so it's still an option to change. I'm just finding it hard to take 2 feats and 1 epic feat for a single spell(two spells if you consider the higher end dispels).
I'm learning now that spell penetration is a must-have for MA, i'm relying entirely on my summon until my next feat when i'll take greater spell penetration. I won't be fighting the same enemies, but there are others with spell resistance as well, and i'd rather not be in the same situation
(tweaked the list a bit, i'm not liking the evocation loss, but i'm sure i'll be laughing all over the place when I remove a massive ball of magic from someone with a flick of my wrist)

I actually wouldn't sweat the spells/day difference between a wiz and a sorc that much. A specialised Wiz has 5/day base vs a sorc's 6/day. Add in bonus slots from casting stat and from items and you're looking at the difference between 8 and 9 level 9 spells per day. Significant but not really game changing.
IMHO spontaneous casting vs spells known is the big wiz vs sorc decider.
I really wouldn't place much faith in Fireball because anything Reflex 1/2 will be largely shrugged off in PvP because many many builds pick up Evasion from a monk or rogue minor multiclass.

In my experience, sorcerers are superior to wizards in PvP... you don't know what your enemy is going to do... maybe you'll get bigby'd and you'll wish you had a dismissal ready, or perhaps another player jumps in against you and you need to have more spells ready.

Don't forget that fireballs are not party friendly. Meaning if you are in a party and throwing fireballs, your team mates will be takining damage also. Also in PvP fireballs are pretty much useless against a dexer, since they usually make their saves.Txzeenath wrote:I went with evocation mostly for the fact that fireball goes up to 20d6, which on a level 3 spell is pretty nice. Something else to look out for when making a wizard are the spells that cannot be scribed (There's a post about it, you'll have to search for). These spells are seldom found as scroll drops. If you want one of these spells you'll need to take on level up. As far as finding scrolls; Orc, goblin and bandit areas are good places to find scrolls of all levels. Another method, make a cleric and you can scribe and transfer about a third of the spells.
Adapt or die.
