how much umd?

I'm rolling up a character that may make use of arcane crafted items through umd (master arcane crafter toon will supply the goods, different umd toon will use them).

about how much umd should i plan on investing in order to be able to use master crafted arcane items? I'm not sure how the skill checks scale up here.

For Master Artisan crafted gear, I find that 25 or so ranks is good for me. 20 works well if you don't have anything around there. Those +5 UMD rings are useful if you feel like only dumping 15 points in it. Theres this one Ice Giant Staff that requires me to wear a ring to use it, but its not that fantastic.

so 25 skill points paid for, or 25 total umd (including rings, etc) ?

its been a long time since I used UMD but I believe I was able to use MA crafted gear with 21 ranks with no gear and 10 charisma... but that was a while ago and that isn't necessarily the lowest you'd need.

The main reason I like UMD is for full Res scrolls and G. Restore.

Was the best when G. Restore did full heal, was awesome seeing my bard/bard/rdd heal 900hp in 1 shot. Though it took some tricky timing if you got too low in hp.
