For those who haven't run into it before, there is a current bug where you lose everything from your inventory on respawn if killed by a summoned creature.
The workaround is to relog the character - after which you should be able to respawn with your inventory intact.
Workaround for the Death By Summon bug.
Someone in the bug tracking forum mentioned it DIDN'T work for him, so I'll try testing it out again tonight to see if I can find the problem.
Without knowing overly much about the custom NS4 death scripting, that it should happen only with summons seems to suggest that the server tracks who you were killed by to determine whether or not a respawn penalty applies. I THINK logging out and back in forces the server to kill you & resets the identity of your killer, fixing whatever is causing the loss of inventory items by making it as though the summons, pet, or familiar didn't kill you.
I normally log in to the servers via server 1, regardless of where I actually am - if you log directly into the server you died on, the fix might not work (possible the death information won't reset this way).

Ohh...is THAT what that is?
Okay, I guess it finally clicked - the AI has code that will "auto-loot" the inventory of a target creature when it is killed by an NPC. This does two things - prevents "leading" creatures to the guards and then looting the spoils, and it also means that the items are still up for grabs - you just have to kill the NPC that received the dead creature's loot.
I'll put in a fix when I get a chance, kind of tough being without internet at home :o

I never encountered this killed-by-summon-and-lose-everything bug, but I have been relogging when killed by a summon just in case, and I've noticed that when you do this, you incur a respawn penalty even though a player killed you. I guess that's better than losing your whole inventory, but as it is, this bug is making it so you have to lose xp and gold whenever a summon kills you.
You know, alot of PvP servers ban summoning all together... Maybe the NS team should consider banning summons for PvP play, at least until this bug is fixed...... It's really an unfair advantage anyway and casters have plenty of other advantages, like the fact that everythng is resistant against physical damage, but not to magic...
Again, mages have a really unfair advantage in NS4, for so many reasons, and those of us who DON'T LIKE playing a caster class shouldn't have to make a wizard just to compete, and fighters shoudl be just as effective as casters, just in different ways....

Ok can you post somewhere publically as soon as you have fixed it? I'm starting to get the impression from many others who have lost their racial abilities that the DMs aren't likely to return mine, and if this is the case then I'll just wait until this is fixed before recreating my char and muling my cash over (which luckily doesn't get stolen)
