Reset

Post by MLoki »

Since mIRC seems to be vacant perhaps some DM will find this here before checking there. It seems a lot of people are complaining about Shopkeeps and Ferrymen not responding on NS4 Prime. After seeing several shouts and posting on mIRC I brought the matter here. I believe NS4 Prime needs a reset. Thank you.

i think you guys should really get together on these resets. i think i'm just going to stop asking and just nail a reset while no one is looking. everytime i ask everyone says its running great, then 5 mins later the lag attacks and nothing is working.....make up my mind.

I for one vote for the automatic reset. It works well on 3.5. As far as exploiting the boss areas, that should be a non-issue since spawns are directly tied to the DB, are they not? That should really be the only reason against the auto-reset as I see it. Just my .5 cents tho'.

Hey, what do I need to download to get the chat applet to work on my home PC? It works fine here at work but at home I just get a red X. I don't think I have Java...?

That would be my first guess.

If your using firefox at work you might try installing the chatzilla extension and looking further down the page that will direct link you.

When we have been looking for a DM for several hours to reset the server then I am guessing that any DM that asks if we need a reset will get a unanomous "Yes". However if we just had a reset and a second DM logs on to see if we need one then most likely you will get many "No"s. Sometimes however when the shopkeeps aren't working and the mobs are standing still, the people fighting the mobs don't want a reset because they are doing so well against creatures that they perhaps shouldn't be fighting, you may get mixed answers when this happens. Amazingly enough you wouldn't have to ask as often if the server did reset at least once in awhile. I only posted here since the server had not had a reset since last night and the people playing were constantly asking for a DM on shout. Nobody responded on mIRC and it wasn't until Mask came on several hours later that we finally got one. The DMs and Devs ask us to say something on mIRC because there is "virtually always" somebody available there. What we don't need is to be lectured by the DMs because we don't always want a reset when they randomly check in on the server.

Sorry just tired of the whole DMs vs Players attitude that comes up in these forums from simple requests...

BTW.. Thank you Mask for logging in to finally give us our reset. As you could tell we desperatly needed it as we all voted Yes this time.

I vote for the scheduled reset, too, if it helps. If we're really worried about exploits, don't tell the players what the schedule is - have it vary, but roughly, I don't know, 4 times a day?

Frankly, I understand why the DM's ask if we want a reset (because they are thoughtful people who are trying not to unnecesarily interrupt game play), but I don't think it ever really hurts to have one - it won't hurt my feelings if you just do it. Can't be any more disruptive than the (reputed) shifter-death crash.

i'll not ask anymore, if the server has been running a lengthy time then i'll just pop it and go. most times everyone seems to think its ok....then all of a sudden things go south.

A warning is appreciated... but if you don't ask then we can't give you mixed answers... You are the DM just tell us how it is and whether you are going to reset it or not if you must. Baring that... any type of automated system may help alleviate some of lag when DMs aren't around.

Indeed a 5 minute warning would be greatly appreciated so everyone can rest up, use their books, and get to a safe area. There is nothing worse than logging on in the middle of instant death. On another note, is there a reason the NS4 servers are not on a scheduled reset mode like the 3.5 servers? I am just asking out of curiousity.

I believe it was deemed unecessary in this thread.

Although I am not sure if the DMs/Devs are around often enough anymore with the beta testing of NWN2 and now that NS4 Reflections has gone on-line.
