It was my understanding that these two spells cancel each other out. If darkness is cast on a "lit" are, the light goes out. Conversely, if light is cast in a "dark" area, the dark goes out. ( What is the absence of dark? )
Is this the case? Are the spells supposed to cancel one another? If they are supposed to, they do not. If they are not supposed to, then how does it work?

It's being looked at, last I heard. In PnP, it's supposed to be a higher level darkness/light spell to cancel the current darkness/light effect, but as it stands in NS4, there is no cancellation. Maybe some clever fellow or lady will look at Drow darkness as well, and notice that an hour per level is a reallllllly freakin long time . . . . seriously.
**EDIT** Late night spelling for the loss.
